As I said, there are complications and that it is too early to
say yet; but I wonder how much of Witty’s commentary was to
attempt to stem the growing mistrust and ambivalence in the
Govts messaging and try to make people stay in and not “chance”

Quite a lot, but he was very clear on the SA data. It's a very
different scenario for them and we can't draw easy conclusions.

So how did it work today at the Stoop? Were there big queues?
Did they really check everyone for a COVID pass?

They checked my NHS Covid pass visually before I entered about
90 mins before KO. They din't scan the 2D barcode thought. All
they did was look at the saved pass in my Google Pay "wallet". I
guess an ingenious soul could mock one up, but do we really
think someone would go to those levels just to attend a rugby
game?

The pass on my phone was carefully examined but not scanned.

I've been to two events where a pass is needed in the last three
days, one at The Stoop and one at the South Bank Centre. Both
times, having a 2d barcode on the screen has been enough to
satisfy security - they didn't look closely enough to see that
it was a real pass. Not the most robust of measures.

Also to answer DOKs other questions. They seemed to check
everyone's pass and it was very quick. There were no queues

I went to a couple of events in October & November at the Oxford
New Theatre, and both times they actually scanned the 2D barcode
before allowing entry. However, they already use the same system
for ticketing on mobiles there too, so they have the equipment &
the expertise/practise at handling scanning codes like that. So
it may depend on the venue.

I didn't realise they were doing the checks yesterday until I
arrived. I just walked straight to the turnstile and no one
asked me to show anything. Good job too.

I can't speak for yesterday but I keep seeing clips on TV
showing people holding their phones up and being waved into
football grounds by security staff standing meters away from
them. It all seems rather ridiculous.
