       a word of caution
my daughter is a secondary school teacher and lft everyday . on
friday she had a positive reading . as per regs her husband did
one too but his was negative . as per regs both took pcr tests .
result ? both positive and are now isolating until 23/12...
       the moral of this ?
LFT do not work satisfactory enough to use them as a permit to
       admission to sporting events imho

Did they do the PCR at the same time as LFT?

Yup, LFTs are quite prone to false negatives.

PCRs are also quite prone to false positives though so who
knows... I've been told not to have a PCR for 3 months as it
might show up a +ve result for"dead virus fragments" (by test
       and trace).

That's not really a false positive - its correctly detecting the
virus in the sample. I realise this seems petty, but there's
been a huge amount of disinformation about PCR tests with wild
claims being made about false positives - they're way better
than LFTs and should be trusted.

Had two specialist appointments at hospital last Wednesday and
Thursday so wife and I did LFTs before travelling, I had a very
slight cough, both negative both days. Friday morning I'm
feeling rough so test again - positive, the wife feels ok and
tests negative. Both have PCR tests three hours later, both
positive with the wife commenting that her throat looked red
when doing the test but feeling fine. Two days later the wife is
feeling rough similar to how I felt on Friday; I am now feeling
relatively ok. We are both triple jabbed and my wife is a health
worker so we have been super careful since the start.
Our view - this is a very virulent strain with extremely quick
transmission and by the time an LFT shows it is probably too
late; the jabs greatly reduce the effects caused by contracting
       the virus.
Should mass events take place? A big question given the current
inoculation levels; this virus is going to be around for years
to come in one variant or another, so at what stage will it be
       without risk?

I don't wish to be pedantic, but Omicron has been shown to be
extremely transmissible but, at first sight, not as virulent as
Delta; virulence measures the intensity of the symptoms etc, not
how fast is spreads; although there are complicating factors
(younger people, less vaccinated in general), the view from SA
(I have a friend in Cape Town who has been relaying news) is
that the effects seem to be less inhibiting and last for less
time, but it is early days yet.
I have a feeling BG13 is doomed. I'd invited some Welsh mates of
mine up for the game this weekend - they've bombed out. I will
be surprised - if game goes ahead - if BG is half full: it would
       be safer except the bars/toilets!

Whitty said yesterday not to interpret the data from SA in that
way, given how many variables have changed for them. It's just
too soon to say if Omicron is less virulent.
