Could have been worse, he could have gone for the drop goal and
only 3 points.

Care's poor games coincide with the absence of Smith; As Allan
and Edwards are "new" and different, I would expect that the
game plan is slightly different for each SH/FH combo, but what
is is certain as that they've been misfiring.
Not much variation in our attack yesterday - Irish (and other
teams) are looking for the offloads and we were forced wide too
soon - drifting aimlessly. A few more inside passes may have
kept them a bit more honest and opened up a few gaps.

That's an excellent point Bolly, I watched the rerun whilst
doing my ironing last night and noticed that more than I did on
Saturday. We're cutting out a player or two with the pass and
the winger is then 1 on 2 and breaking down.
One of them needs to straighten and put doubt in the inside
defenders mind, like Jones did at the end before buggering up
Murley's running line.

Yes -- that connection will because he DC does what he's meant
to do and gets the ball quickly to the 10 channel. He's killed
us for several games now by not making "that connection."
Edwards got man of the match (a little over the top but not far
off) after Care got taken off. On Saturday Care did it again -
and it completely killed our attack. We were flat the whole
game, the ball coming out of the ruck late and with no jeopardy
for the defence on what was going to happen next - they knew
they could come up and attack hard because there was no risk of
the 10 running at them. He made defending easy.

We had exactly this conversation on the way home. Its not just
Danny's decision making, its his basic accuracy. Too often this
season play is breaking down due to a bad or an inaccurate pass
and more often than not, its Danny that's the cause of the
problem.
As an example take the final phase of play before the game
ending penalty. Once Hugh Jones had made the break we went
through two phases where we simply trundled the ball up before
we finally went wide. Irish had regrouped and came up fast,
closing down space out wide as they had all match. The ball went
loose (Edwards trying to make something happen as he was
tackled) and that was that. April/May last year we'd have gone
wide much sooner and not allowed the defense to reset.
All good things come to an end and it seems to me that a
decision about who is our starting number 9 needs to be
discussed by the management team sooner rather than later.
Difficult I know, but for me, if he's fit, I'd be tempted to
give Steele a run to see what he can do (rather as we did when
Danny came through to take over from Gomarsall)

Yes, that trust and connection between Edwards and DC is not
quite there, in the same way as it now is between Marcus and DC.
Interesting that he wasn't subbed (as he was v Wasps) - perhaps
the coaches felt happy with his direction? Or were giving him a
chance to get it right?
Oh well, a good week's work before Sunday!!!

think he would have been subbed if Steele was on the bench for
sure.....

People on here have written care off during patches of bad form
for what, 5 years? More? I'd certainly say that he doesn't have
the fitness for 80 minutes any more but he was superb last
season and 8 and 10 have been a lot less settled this year. I'll
back him to come through it again. And his kicking has improved
beyond measure.

Completely agree. Care was tipped for a place on the lions tour
a few months ago. He's had a few average games, but is
understandably trying to take a bit more responsibility with an
inexperienced 10 outside him.
I do wish though that when we have advantage he'd let a few
phases develope before trying the kick through

Any news on Tommy Allan or Luke Northmore? The silence is
worrying
