Ewels is one of those players who does a lot of the unseen work,
so clearing out rucks and making tight carries and tackles. He's
also there since England has a shortage of tighthead locks, with
Kruis and Launchbury not being available, and I'd say that him
and Hill are probably the only other two that are international
standard.

I get your point on them not played together but, my point was
more about Marler's fitness after missing training.

But his fitness isn't really the problem - it's that he hasn't
trained with his new hooker for 9 days and hasn't been part of
the "how we are going to beat the SA team" discussions and
practise.
Having said that, I think he'll be on before half time...

There's the type of unseen work that Richard Hill and robshaw
did - positive impact. Then there's work being unseen because
the player's just not that good or effective

He's really not a good carrier or tackler, though. "Unseen work"
tends to be alongside seen work!

I'm just really chuffed for him. The question is how he's going
to get a decent run as a starter in this England squad. I really
feel there's nothing between him and Slade - they're the top two
13s in the Prem by a distance in my mind, but March has always
been a little bit underrated. The arguments for Slade would
probably be his kicking game and distribution, but March is a
very capable distributor himself and (I'd argue) has the edge
defensively. Both are excellent attackers in quite different
ways.
If he does somehow find a way into the 13 shirt in the near
future, I do think March is a more natural side dish to Manu -
he's so used to tracking Andre's busts and breaking weak inside
shoulders when receiving the inevitable offload and the same
system could easily fall into place for England in the run up to
the RWC with Marcus installed at 10 now... if Eddie was minded
to sidetrack Golden Boy Faz for anything other than injury (let
a boy dream).
I hope we get to see at least 20 mins of March shifting inside
to 13 tomorrow - could even prove to be a much-needed
gamebreaker. Either way, we all know he'll leave nothing out
there and I hope he gets some kind of chance to show what he can
do with ball in hand.

I think this is where March's time in NZ will have helped his
career, even though it was limited due to the pandemic. He
played mainly on the wing there, so he has experience at a very
high level of wing play, so he's a useful option when building a
matchday 23.

I feel a bit like the posts that reads - CHIEF'S FAN IN
PEACE..... Not really allowed to comment on England as a Welsh
supporter. But there you go and here I go. When England are in
the ascendancy the other Northern hemisphere Nations benefit as
it collectively raises the bar. Unfortunately - and I declare
myself as NOT and Eddie Jones fan - England despite some
wonderful players have fallen short over the past few years.
Flashes of brilliance but long boring and dull periods of
predictable rugby. Until EJ has the courage to play exciting
breakthrough players in a meaningful way it will remain boring
rugby. I want England to beat SA in an eciting and fast flowing
game. No penalty kicks for the post only to the corner with
courage and conviction. COME ON YOU NORTHERN HEMISPHERE
NATIONS.
