Not sure someone can be "still international class" if they were
never international class to begin with...
It is an interesting article, though I'd find it more
interesting if any of these actually looked at what's wrong with
his game rather than just praising his undoubted talent. JK
makes a great point about how moving overseas was a disastrous
choice for him in particular - I never considered the
psychological side of things, needing proper English speakers
who can get through to him; I just thought he fit the mould for
a flair winger in French rugby - and Catrakilis is very much
engaged in man-management mode.
As time passes I am less and less opposed to him returning to
Quins, though I doubt he'd ever want to, because I think the
current setup could do a lot with him.

I can't imagine Quins have endeared themselves to him if we've
indicated that we would enforce the non-compete clause! I am
somewhat surprised that the new management team held him to it.
Then again, he was around for the final and associated
celebrations, so who knows.

I can understand their reasoning though, they've spent time,
effort and money on developing the player and don't want that
being effectively being passed on to a rival club

Bear in mind also, that he asked to be (insisted) released from
his contract MID-TERM because he wanted to go somewhere else,
presumably for more money and/or more first-team opportunity.
That is simply wrong. Bide your time, do the right thing. I'm
sure that's why Quins took/is taking what some are seeing as a
harsh stance. We simply can't have that. Unless it's Chris
Ashton asking, of course ...

Yep. This is what I was about to say.
I don’t like the way he handled his exit, but he could be
another casualty of the Gustard regime that wouldn’t have the
same problems with the set-up at the club now. It’s also
perfectly possible he was poorly advised by his agent.
I also don’t blame the club for putting in the non-compete. It
was a condition of him leaving early.

He certainly had flashes of brilliance but I think he believed
his own hype and ignored a lot of his drawbacks namely his
defence. Head probably got turned and it backfired and I have no
sympathy.
Comes across like the Ravel Morrison of rugby a bit. Lots of
potential but has been badly managed along with poor decisions.
I personally think his boat has sailed

I’m not so sure there is bad blood with him and the club he was
about a lot towards end of the season. I do wonder who we’d drop
for him though? We have a lot more balance in our back 3 now and
while he may add a bit of flair and raw pace we’d lose ability
under high ball and defence.
So on balance let him play elsewhere.

Piece seems to be based on the idea he had already proved his
potential - truth was very from it.
He was awful in defence, never in the right place and fell off
the very few tackles he attempted.
Seems he got ideas beyond his ability and ran away to take the
money.
He may be a nice lad - but seems he rather over estimated his
value and is paying the price.
