I did something similar. When I first realised I’d lost my sense
of taste, I was trying all sorts of hot stuff like chillis or
really strongly flavoured like fish sauce. I couldn’t taste a
thing and well over a year later, I reckon it’s no more than 70%
of what it was.

effects elsewhere!!!

Lutefisk (*) is good too - I once ordered it in Norway and the
waitress advised against it, but I insisted: she said she'd
bring me something else as well, for when I handed it back after
just smelling it; once I'd finished it, she - visibly shocked -
then gave me some venison steak.
Try a teaspoon of blachan or, if you dare, some samba blachan -
a Malaysian/Indonesian fermented fish and chilli paste...
Or, if you're high devolved, some of my mates California Reaper
Chilli Vodka: one drop is enough to burn a hole through your
tongue.
(*) = fish that has been wrapped up and buried in a hole in the
ground to ferment for 6 months. It is then disinterred and
"prepared" - it comes out of this process looking like jellied
fish. It is often served with mushy peas and bacon bits. An
acquired taste, for sure - the smell is worse then than the
taste...

I think that should be sambal belecan BQ. A friend of mine is
Indonesian and she makes huge batches of sambal of which there
are hundreds of varieties in that part of the world. I believe
the belecan version is Malaysian and made from fermented shrimp
paste. I have tried it and my tolerance has increased over the
years but I still wouldn't recommend a teaspoonful on it's own.
Much better to mix with rice to give it some bite!

Well you're far braver than me - I would not go near Lutefisk.
Blachan I like in cooking but again would not consider it on its
own. 😁👍
