Tuilagi must be because he wants Farrell, Slade & him on the
pitch, while he can't get away with not starting Smith any
longer. If he just wanted a Centre who's played wing, Joe
Marchant has done so much more recently and to good effect.

I can see Slade and Manu chopping and changing as needed. With 3
playmakers and a crash ball option, the oppo should be guessing
where the ball is going.

Manu is there because otherwise there is no ball carrier in the
backs. I'm surprised by the selection: I would have probably
dropped Slade if I wanted to see how the Smith / Farrell axis
went. With 2 No.8s on the bench who thinks we might see Skinner
in the centres at some point?!
Have to say, I do see these as games in which we should try some
different combinations so not overly concerned. I worry about
how Manu will be targetted in defence - I wonder if we will see
Slade there at times.

Why would you put an 8 (assuming Skinner is Simmonds) in the
centres, especially at this level when you have Mailns on the
bench that could move Manu in? Not even sure why there are 2 8s
on the bench anyway.

2 8s because he's wedded to Curry and because he wants at least
one of the two to be 'flexible' - i.e. be able to be shoehorned
into another position at Eddie's whim, like Curry currently is.
As it is, we have 4 locks, with 3 starting. We have two
opensides on the pitch at the start who can also play blindside,
and 2 locks who can also play blindside. So hell, why not, two
8s it is. Might as well go full Mad Hatter.

So the 2 best 8's in the Premiership are on the bench. He's
dropped Radwan and playing a centre at wing (I know he's played
there before but that was years ago). I can live with Lawes at
6, he plays there a lot, but it looks like Eddie is trying to
have his cake and eat it by shoehorning as many players in the
same positions as he can into the team.
So who comes on at 8, Dommers or Simmonds and where does the
other one play when they come on?

I wouldn't, but Eddie?? On a more serious note, I think
Simmonds will come on at 6.

It’s all very odd but if we win and I hope we do, it works in
EJs favour. I suppose the saving grace is he can’t mess with FR
too much, I mean they have to play there right

It's an incredibly callow Aussie side with real problems in the
pack, so you'd think England have more than enough to win this
at home regardless of selection problems.
