Really pleased to see Smith start.
Was not expecting both Dombrandt and Simmonds to appear on the
bench and am even more surprised to see Tuilagi on the wing.
Apparently the first time that's happened since against NZ on
June 14, 2014.

Maro Itoje will make his 50th appearance for England.
Captain Owen Farrell returns to the side at inside centre, Henry
Slade stays at outside centre, and Marcus Smith will start at
fly half.
Jonny May (left) and Manu Tuilagi (right) will be on the wings,
Freddie Steward is at full back and Ben Youngs is at scrum half.

"We know this will be a tough test for us, we’re playing against
a team who have been together a while and who have beat the
world champions twice. As an Australian I know how much this
game means," said head coach Eddie Jones.
"We’ve had a really good week of preparation, we’re looking to
improve our performance this week and I think this side is
building well."
In an unchanged forward pack from England’s 69-3 win over Tonga
last weekend, Itoje is joined by lock Jonny Hill, hooker Jamie
George and props Ellis Genge and Kyle Sinckler.
Courtney Lawes stays at blind-side flanker, Sam Underhill is
open-side flanker and Tom Curry is at No. 8.
Bevan Rodd and Raffi Quirke could make their England debuts
after being named as finishers. Jamie Blamire, Will Stuart,
Charlie Ewels, Alex Dombrandt, Sam Simmonds and Max Malins make
up the rest of the bench.

So two of the best number 8s in the prem on the bench yet Curry
still at 8?

So, apart from Curry at 8 which he isn't , Tuilagi on the Wing
which he isn't and Farrell at12 ...which he isn't, that's not a
bad side !!! Who do we think will be kicking for goal. Probably
not last years highest points scorer.

Two number eights in the squad but none in the team. Only one
winger in the squad but at least he starts. Glad to see Eddie's
team selection is getting more sensible.

Still the same odd choices.
Tuilagi doesn't play wing for his club and hasn't
internationally for years, yet hes given a starting birth over
plenty of other options. Is Radwan injured? As he did nothing
wrong against Tonga. I can only imagine EJ wants some grunt in
the backs and dosent care where it is so will make room for it.
Curry isn't a great 8. He's fairly tidy and escapes any
criticism because in general excellent players are still
adaptable, but he isn't going to ever be a world class option
there that may be the difference in the way Simmonds or
Dombrandt can. Again its a case of EJ having a player he wants
involved at all costs and will make room for him.

He's just being perverse now surely? 2 8s on the bench is weird
enough. Could always see him playing Farrell at 12 but Tuilagi
on the wing seems odd even for Edward. Is Radwan injured or did
he blot his copy book by running too fast last week?

Very strange, so pleased for Marcus and obvious he wasn't going
to drop OF and you have to have Manu and Slade playing so almost
makes sense to drop a winger but might all go wrong in defence.
Suspect OF or MS might drop back to wing when Aussies look to
kick deep but what do I know!

Very odd. I can see how Manu at 14 could be useful for this
particular match - if they use him coming infield he could be
devastating and that would allow Smith, Slade etc. to do their
thing. But even still it's not a long term solution.
The back row is just baffling though. I can see why you'd want
Underhill and Curry to play, but then put them at 6 & 7 and pick
an actual ball playing 8! Then put Lawes on the bench for his
versatility and impact.
A game v Australia is crying out for Dombrandt's lines and
handling but instead we've got 3 workhorses who won't be able to
effectively link with the backs.
