Remember Eddie’s pictures are upside down.

Mitchell has been in camp for 4 days, and Smith has barely
trained. Obviously they're going to be fit enough to play, but
they won't have had the time to build the relationships with
other players that you need to play the 80 (especially from 9
and 10). Then if you're going to bring both of them on at
~60mins you may as well bring Dombrandt on at the same time and
let those three create chaos for 20 minutes.
Overall I'm actually pretty happy with the team, the back 3
looks really exciting, pretty much the entire forward pack is
world class, and there's a good mix of experience and youth. I
know that some think that picking a starting XV with about 20
caps between them was the way to go, but imo it makes much more
sense to pick a similar squad to what you'll go with for Aus and
SA so that you allow the players to get used to playing
together, then if the younger players can show that they're
ready then they can get brought in.

All these new and exciting players and he puts out the same team
he always has... bar a few injury forced changes. Madness.
Often with Eddie you can look at what he does and think to
yourself 'well, I don't agree with it but perhaps there's a
bigger picture or motive I've not considered' and give him and
his superior knowledge the benefit of the doubt.
But this makes it painfully clear that Eddie just won't have it
that anybody knows better than he does and just has to go
against the grain for his ego's sake. There is zero benefit
whatsoever to naming the team he has done.
Next England coach please.

I hope I'm wrong but I bet Marcus doesn't get the pairing of
Tuilagi and Slade outside him like Farrell has, no doubt Slade
or Tuilagi will be off and handbrake-Farrell will be at 12 when
Marcus comes on. If that happened and the Smith-Tuilagi-Slade
axis worked, golden-boy Farrell would be redundant.

Fair point if we were playing a competitive side but with
respect this is Tonga and probably another weeks training would
be as good if not better. I'm not saying it's a bad side he's
picked, it's a very strong one, but would have liked to have
seen some of the fringe players given a chance to show what they
can do rather than spend the rest of their time holding tackle
bags.

I really don't get why so many people have such a big downer on
Farrell, especially when so many international coaches have a
completely different view (remind you of any recent
international Quins players?). Farrell is a system player: he
implements what he's been asked to implement and that's why
coaches rate him.
For the last 4 years he's been asked to implement a
kick-and-pressurise based game, with Ford calling the shots
about when to run (and Farrell often called upon to truck the
ball up rather than try to create anything). Before that, and
before Lancaster's RWC selection meltdown, Farrell played some
very attractive international rugby working outside Care.
Smith is in the squad because Eddie wants to play more ball in
hand (and probably on the bench because he hasn't trained very
much). Farrell will be tasked with implementing that changed
system for 60 minutes at flyhalf and then, probably, to switch
to supporting Smith from centre. Chances are that he will adapt
to it as required.

My issue with Farrell is that as captain last Autumn, he made
some truly dumb choices, particularly in the area that he's
supposed to be excellent at: Kicking. In one game (I think it
was the France game) he was having a massive case of the yips,
missing what would normally be guaranteed 3-pointers. He had
both Ford and Daly on the pitch with him, both excellent kickers
themselves. Rather than say to one or other of them "Here, you
take this one, keep the points going", he kept choosing to kick
himself AND MISS. That's poor decision making. He will know that
some days your radar is off & either trust the penalty kicks to
someone else or only attempt them when you're closer . Either of
Ford or Daly could have easily taken over kicking duties easily
without any drop in percentages.

His conduct to the refs were appalling too. Lost it completely.
You need your captain to be a cool head in any situation and he
let the situation get the better of him. if I was the oppo I'd
be tearing into him getting under his skin further.

Why not play Furbank at 10 if you are not going to play Smith.
Jones sees Furbank as the Mike Catt of his squad, he can be a
good full-back, a decent 10 and could fill in across the
backline.
He could have treated this as a World cup game pool gameand see
what his Third rate Fly Half could do with Farrel and Slade.
Seems like a missed opportunity and we will learn very little.
