Obano injury

Apparently, Obano suffered a ruptured ACL when he went down at
the end of the first half against us. Although he only remained
for the minute and a half until the HT whistle (he didn’t
reappear for the second half), it is extraordinary that the Bath
medics didn’t take him off straight away; they had taken a
stretcher onto the pitch. Player welfare not quite the priority
when like Bath, your injury list is becoming increasingly
problematic?

They were also tardy in takingde Glanville and Simpson off as
well. Both had head injuries as well I think

It looked to me as though Obano refused to leave the pitch.
From memory, Bath had already sent Boyce on. But, Obano was very
insistent about staying on and Boyce had to leave the pitch
again.
Even Sir was quite surprised and did repeatedly check that he
was okay.
- so, I'm not sure that Bath are actually at fault with this
one.

Listening over the Reflink, Luke Pierce asked him a number of
times if he was sure he could carry on. The understanding I got
from what I heard was that it was Obano's decision & choice to
stay on for the extra 90 seconds, including the scrum.

But aren't the medics supposed to protect the players from
themselves? There's no doubt that the damage was done when he
tried to pirouette so not sure the extra 90 seconds mattered but
when the scary, gown wearing bloke came on they should have just
got him off the pitch.
Really strange.

Strange decisions for sure but I wish them all a quick, and
complete, recovery from their injuries.

ACLs arent always the easiest thing to diagnose on the pitch.
Ollie Kohn's injury was missed by multiple medics and he ended
up training and playing with it knackered!

I'd be issuing the Bath medical team their P45's. As correctly
pointed out by Banstead, they should be protecting the players
from themselves.
Both the De Glanville and Obano incidents were clearly serious
incidents with lengthy stoppages, and if there is any doubt
whatsover, take them off. The fact both were withdrawn shortly
afterwards anyway shows they get both calls very wrong.

Obano is not a free agent but an employee of Bath Rugby; his
opinion, whilst providing a useful, personal but professionally
uninformed assessment of his condition, could not be the final
word on the matter. They (medic/Hooper/whoever) should have
insisted he leave the pitch. No fault attaches to LP .
