I hate to say it and feel rather disloyal if not dirty doing so
but you may well be right. We all felt that the play offs, let
alone a shot at the title had gone when we lost Evans to injury,
then Browny to suspension but along cane Kenningham and the
Lynagh / Green combo and it's like Oh, hang on!

Wow! That's a debate thread all of its own, would we have won
the prem with Brown in the side? I think we would have as teams
always wanted to double up on him because of his strength, the
big difference would have been Tyrone on the wing on the end of
the passes as the full back and winger were both drawn to Brown.
He would have had some easy run ins.
Still, it's all about opinions and am a huge fan of the
Green/Lynagh love in......

I disagree. Brown was in his best form since 2016 before he got
suspended. We'd have played differently with him, but not
necessarily worse. We might not have scored as many against
Bristol, for instance, but equally we might have conceded fewer.
We were extraordinarily lucky that Green stepped up to the role
so well, but it's pretty revisionist to think it was decisive.

We fluked it in 2012, not in 2021.

The year that we led the table throughout the whole season and
finished with 17 wins out of 22 regular season games, then held
a lead over Leicester throughout the whole final?
Funny definition of a fluke.
If there was a moment of luck it was the 13-man maul that won us
the semi-final, but I think the squad had earned that.

Quins got lucky in a world cup year. Look at the lack of
progress in the following seasons

The seasons in which Saracens were ramping up their cheating?
Quins made the semi-finals in the following two years IIRC (I
went to them!), by which point the squad that had won the AP was
starting to fall apart - we'd lost Mo, Skinner, JJ, several
hookers, and JTH and Lowe had picked up the injuries that ended
their careers.
Quins overperformed in 2011-12, and did benefit a bit from not
having the RWC hangover that other teams had. But Quins also
managed to win a lot of very tough games under difficult
conditions. I remember there was a point where there were so
many back row injuries that we had 3rd and 4th string players
starting on the flanks and Robshaw had to play 8.

Now now Poorfour, you know not to feed the trolls!
I think what we achieved in both title winning years was nothing
short of magnificent. Right place, right time and right coaching
strategies. It was a shame we didn't kick on after 2012 but it
feels so different this time.
