So Rocker can you square these two sentences:
‘I wish he would stick to giving his opinion on the matters on
the pitch’
‘I certainly don't go around trying to ban things I don't like
or feel "offended" about. That's called being intolerant.’

Yes beans on toast
I am giving an opinion.
He is free to have one too, he is even free to share it. I don't
care for those who state absolute "facts" that aren't.

As a pundit isn’t he expressly employed to give his opinion? And
as one who has remained relevant long after the rest of his
generation of players and many of those who’ve followed him into
punditry, I think it’s empirical evidence rather than an
assumption that his opinions carry more weight than most.
As to the question of whether Exeter should stop using the
Native American imagery, isn’t that just a question of basic
politeness as much as anything else? Exeter have no particular
claim to that imagery other than having used it for a while, but
there’s a significant body of people who do have a legitimate
claim on it who are offended by its use in such a casual way.
It’s pretty rude to continue offending that group of people
after you have been informed of the issue.
The waters get muddied when people get offended on other
people’s behalf (without evidence that that offence is really
there), or when the underlying issue itself is more complex (as
with the furore over Swing Low last year). But this one is
pretty straightforward.

Where is anyone doing this?
You are the one calling people "lefty bigot" and "lefty troll
brigade". Who is calling you names or personally attacking you?
Where is this witch hunt that you describe? For all of your talk
of wanting to hear all sides of an argument, you don't seem
particularly open to any views that don't mirror your own.
On the subject of the Exeter branding Brian Moore and others
have given examples of native Americans who have asked for this
to be changed. There maybe others who don't care. I doubt there
are any who are delighted that a rugby club in south west
England is co-opting their heritage.

Surely they can retain the chiefs name but change the imagery to
an Anglo saxon or celtic chieftain instead? Although I don't
fully understand why it's seen as acceptable to use one groups
imagery and not another's. It's thankfully not something for us
to get overly concerned about.

So presumably you don't see a problem with the Black & White
Minstrel Show?

Not really the same is it? We are in danger of straying into
unsavoury territory that's not really for this forum I wouldn't
think.

So stag outings dressed in ponchos, false moustaches and a
sombrero; cultural misappropriation or a day out on the p**s
with mates? My daughter, anglo saxon, dressing up in a sari to
celebrate different cultures at school; cultural
misappropriation or acknowledging the value of other cultures?
The list goes on…..There will always be someone offended by
something, certain people seem to take a pleasure in it these
days, where do we draw the line?

It’s still imagery, isn’t it? If it makes you feel uncomfortable
then surely you do “understand why it's seen as acceptable to
use one groups imagery and not another's.”.
