I might believe Wasps had some merit in bringing this to
everyone's attention, were it not for the fact they're playing
Exeter this weekend. This isn't some noble stand on behalf of
the poor downtrodden American Indian, this is a grubby bit of
opportunism designed to stir up passions/opinions before the
game. Wasps don't give a flying about the culture being
appropriated by Exeter (if it is), they care about a game this
weekend and if they can't beat Exeter fairly, then they'll stir
up controversy and hope to get in the minds of the team, their
       management and supporters.
Frankly Wasps do themselves and their supporters a disservice by
the timing of this. The subject may indeed deserve to be
considered by the powers that be, but to stir it up right now
simply makes Wasps look desperate and cheap.
What next, complaints that Bloodgate wasn't dealt with harshly
       enough?
The week after Exeter are we to expect Wasps to be complaining
that Saracens weren't properly pursued over their issues with
       the salary cap?

Didn't the fan group originally send it's open letter about this
in August? Wasps then said they would take time to speak to
people before making a judgement. I agree that they probably
should have made their decision slightly quicker so as not to
have it during the week of their match but they needed to say
something before this weekend considering the whole point was to
see if they would ban Exeter from wearing the headdresses or
       not. They chose not too.

Is it not more that this could have more impact by doing this
the week of a match against Exeter rather than say wasps vs
sale? I don’t think you can possibly say wasps don’t care about
the issue. Clearly it’s not put Baxter off given his tone deaf
response. Exeter are doubling down with their lack of a
proactive discussion. They don’t care one bit and aren’t going
to lose a match based on whether their fans travel and happen to
be wearing a war bonnet or not.

Just a question, how do you think it would be received if we had
called ourselves Harlequins Maoris and adopted their figure
heads and customs. Painted ourselves up for games and did the
Haka before each one. Even though we’ve had plenty play for us
which I doubt Exeter can say the same about Native Americans.
Many of the North American teams have seen fit to change
       their names already.

However, the term 'Chief' is European and not an indigenous
North American term, therefore it pops up everywhere in our
culture, including in Laurie Dalrymple's title - 'Chief
       Executive Officer'.
In fact, there is no single specific North American Indian term
for 'leader' to appropriate; the region includes many historical
languages that existed over a vast area.

The name isn’t the issue. It’s the use of war bonnets and other
nods to the culture that are widely accepted as insulting and in
no way seen as paying respect. Anyone who actually bothered to
       read up would realise this.

That doesn’t explain the head dresses and other imagery
inferring Native North American Chiefs. They could quite easily
chosen an English local tribe .

I'm pretty sure all these senior bods making these decisions
about what's offensive, and what we need to be careful about are
probably all pretty much overweight middle aged white men. I'm
almost certain in this case if you sat down with representatives
from the native American community and asked them if they were
offended by Exeter's actions, the answer would be no. The same
concept applies all manor of things. It's a bit like the
decision has been made it IS offensive, without really
consulting the actual target market of the "victims".

OK, but Mayor West you did link the issue to the term Maori and
concluded by saying that many teams have already changed their
       name.

Have you been following the numerous American teams having to
change names and / or logos due to backlash from tribes and the
wider public and sponsors? I’m guessing not based on your reply.
But because you don’t have an issue therefore no one must have
       an issue. Give me strength
