That wasn't pleasant reading on Twitter this morning from Laurie
:(
Unforgivable reaction to having to wait a short while in busy
periods for a beverage. I arrived an hour before kick off and
all seemed fine to me at that point. But the influx with
20minutes to go was extraordinary.
From my view point on Friday there was a few factors in play
that I noticed:
1) Friday has always attracted a slightly more worker/visitor
crowd than the Sat/Sun matches, where its maybe more about being
a social or client event rather than seeing the match itself.
2) With the time that people finish work and then travel times,
being in close proximity to kick off, there was maybe an element
of surge based on there being less of a stagger that Saturday
offers for people arriving to the ground. (This shouldnt be new
to regular Quins though)
3) Then add to that we have had a large influx of new STH over
the summer.
4) Finally, like Laurie said, the logistics are still getting
back on their feet. There have been a few matches earlier on
over the last year that have had very small capacity which may
have given people false memories of what full capacity actually
means for food and drink etc (Again, I wouldnt have thought this
was the case but it has been a LONG time to have seen a capacity
like Friday).
It sounds like it all created a bit of a perfect storm for
people to think that their personal time and enjoyment in the
ground is slightly more important than everyone else' in the
ground.
Like Deadly said, we will always attract one or two of them.
Sincerely hope this was a one off and CERTAINLY not a regular
match going Quin.
Get to the ground in good time, enjoy the time in the ground,
and get to you seat to see the lads run out...... and dont be a
moron to people going about their jobs.
Simple as it has always been.

Yes Sib, regrettably I saw a post on one of the Harlequin groups
elsewhere with a picture over Pat Lams shoulder quoting
something along the lines of "Gave him some grief".
Dire things to see.

Not good to hear.
As for the surge, you always tend to get that on Friday night
games. I was working from home, but would normally have been
coming in from the city, on a packed train, getting there with
not much time to spare. I'm sure it's the same for many others
with commitments to deal with before they can get here. No
excuse for the behaviour obviously, but possible explanation for
the surge.
Bar queue times where I went were minimal. Looked like long food
queues, so I just didn't bother.
The bar service has historically been pretty ropey, but the
blame lies with the management / whoever is "training" the
staff, not with the staff themselves. It should be much quicker
with contactless payments, but it's amazing how many people will
stand in a queue for 10 minutes then only start thinking about
what they want when they get to the front, then call their mates
over for their order.
One guy in front of me in the queue decided to have a nice chat
with one of the staff about different ale options. Fine maybe at
your local pub / brewery, but perhaps at a busy rugby ground
just read the description on the board and order, don't go full
on real ale ticker and hold everyone else up. Very unfair that
staff should get abused because customers can't order quickly,
or can't wait until the queue does down

That's quite a big assumption.

The staff abuse is not good reading. End of the day, these guys
don't get paid that much for providing you with beer. Respect,
patience, & understanding, perhaps required, what happened to
that? Hope the person is OK. There have been "crush" issues in
the south east corner on previous occasions on friday nights,
due to travel stresses, where everyone arrives at the same time.
It's not new. Not sure how to stop it other than don't have
games on a friday night. Never seems to be an issue on
saturdays.

We've discussed the issue of bar staff before. You're not going
to get professional bar staff working at a rugby club bar. The
requirement is for once a fortnight on a Friday or Saturday or
Sunday anytime between 12:00 and 22:00. So the bar management
get in casual bar staff. As the season goes on, the casual bar
staff tend to become more experienced but that's not guaranteed.
Add to that this is the start of the season and everything is
unfamiliar, the surge of people before the game, the surge at
half time, it is undoubtedly a bear pit.
Without more detail, it's impossible to know if more staff could
have mitigated the problem or whether everything was working at
maximum capacity and someone was still upset. I'm sure the club
are looking at the incident and will act on any findings.
Whatever was the problem, I'm pretty sure it wasn't the fault of
the poor bar staff that got abused.
I'm sure we've all made a comment like "Finally!" when we've got
to the front of a queue, occasionally I've had to ask someone to
top up a 3/4 full pint but actually laying into the bar staff is
unacceptable. It's like shouting at the train guard when the
train is late.
The OP is quite right, behaviour like this is disgraceful and it
falls on us all to police it. We are proud of our standards in
rugby, and someone let us down badly here.

I find the bar staff in the outside bar behind the North stand
and the one in the North East corner pretty good and friendly.
The ones in the Robshaw bar can sometimes be a painfully slow.
No reason to abuse them though.

To be fair Deadly we had a few morons before we had any success.
Especially on here!

Poor show from fans abusing staff. I'm a bit of a to$$er but not
even I would abuse staff. Probably young, working for peanuts,
doing the best they can with poor beer.. just not deserved.

A BIG issue is the Red Zone by the tunnel....I have been coming
years and my routine is always the same.....walk along the front
and get my seat in either block FB or the south stand.....this
is not now possible so I saw hundreds of folks being turned
round and sent behind the West stand.....it was carnage!!! When
the red zone ends it SHOULD get easier!!
