Couple of points on that deadly , I don't think the booing was
aimed at the individual , more at the injustice of the situation
, but if players are encouraged to wind up opposition supporters
it can only end up with ugly scenes .
My comment on Roberts was really about the way he seemed to
conduct himself throughout the match , looking up into the
stands and punching the air when Bath scored in an exaggerated
manner, pointing at the Bath supporters in the N stand and
bouncing his hands up and down to encourage them to make noise
when Quins scored and so on , at one point the Bath fans started
a 'Come on you Barf' chant , which is fine , but he turned and
mock applauded !- I have no problem with a player showing
passion for his team I was just surprised that I had never seen
that when he played for us , so he was clearly being 'an angry
young man' for whatever reason .
Ive spoken to Jamie Roberts on 3 occasions and always found him
to be a gent , so it seemed quite out of character and
unnecessary which is why it was noticeable .
I didn't hear any boos for him , and if there were any it wasn't
on the scale that we heard for Marland Yarde .
Hopefully he has got that out of his system and he'll be
happier next time !

The “rugby is better than football” made up morality is one of
the reasons it’s not expanding faster. Classist horse poop and
patently not true - especially since we are best remembered for
an episode of blatant cheating.
Sorry - can't agree with this. Rugby, currently, IS better than
football for a couple of reasons, but the biggest reason is the
respect the players have for the referee. If rugby players ever
end up surrounding and shouting abuse at the referee on the
pitch, that's when I will stop watching. Also, the level of bad
language in the stadium is gradually getting worse, but is
nothing like that at football - same applies to crowd trouble.
Again, if we ever have segregated stadia for Rugby, that will be
the end of it for me.
As for the booing - it's happened before, but seems a bit more
prevalent now. I don't mind it if it is proportionate - I've
done it myself on occasion when blatant cheating has been
missed, but I'll always stay quiet for the kicks. Hate the "off
off off" chant - in my mind, that would sway the ref the other
way.
One thing that is needed though is a passionate crowd. When I
started going regularly, we were very well mannered, and it took
quite something to get the centre of the East fired up. Not so
much these days - and much better for it! Keep the noise up, and
we may even get back to Fortress Stoop.
I stopped watching football because of the crowd hostility,
appalling behaviour of players and swearing in the crowd
etc....but I think rugby banging on about being "better" is a
bad strategy is all.
Plenty to be proud of without wanging on about it. A fine line
to argue I realise but it's just what I think.
I don't think rugby bangs on about it. What usually happens is
when football-like incidents happen, they get jumped on by
people who love that rugby support is, by and large, better.
My original point was that we seem to be going in the football
direction, which some people don't seem to mind. Last night, a
STH in my local told me a friend of hers is considering
reporting a couple of supporters for their foul-mouthed language
on Saturday. Fans around me berated pretty much every decision
(or non-decision) that the ref made and others shouted and
flicked V-signs at the Bath supporters near us. Another mate who
was making a rare visit to The Stoop messaged me mid-game saying
'listening to the trip that comes out of people is
embarrassing'.
As I've said before, I'm all for positive support, just not the
constant negativity, which is very football.
The reason I think this debate is so heated is that times seem
to be changing and some like it and others don't.

We need an amalgam of the passion of football and the
manners/control of rugby. I want us louder, more vociferous, and
yes, maybe a bit more in the ref's face on 50/50 decisions
but... no swearing, nothing that stops supporters mingling and
enjoying the match together, certainly no intimidation. There's
a guy near me never agrees with the ref's decisions and let's
him know at full volume (no, it's not prof!). But honestly, he
doesn't worry me, I just smile at some of his absurd claims.
We'll occasionally try the hopeful "forward" cry on a pass, but
it's only worked once to my knowledge.

Honestly though where do you sit?
I've never heard or seen anyone abusing anyone at the Stoop and
if anyone swears too often we remind them that it's not really
the done thing.
I hope the club acts immediately if what you say is right. I
also hope any Quins fan would immediately report anyone behaving
in that way around them - provide the club with the seat number
and I hope the club would ban them.
Frankly the stewards should be removing fans behaving in that
way.

Have we had any more in regard to the abuse of Bath supporters?
Seems rather odd that this was raised as a point then ignored
when asked for more information, I would hope that it was
reported to the stewards and not just reported on here to back
up another point.

It is a very interesting debate. I personally do not tend to boo
a decision (although I might get angry etc...), with the
decision mainly being discussed again I did not boo and this was
mainly due to what my knowledge of the rules was (this has since
been called into question and there does not seem to be any
definitive answer)
As far as I was aware a player is (unfortunately) allowed to run
any line they like when they are supporting a team-mate in
possession. However if they do decide to change direction (which
I thought was allowed even multiple times) they must not make
contact otherwise it is at that point a penalty offence.
As far as I am aware that was the very discussion that was
happening between ref and TMO and also the commentators on BT
Sport. The decision was then made that contact was made and
therefore penalty, but at the time I certainly could not have
said for certain that he had made contact while I watched live
from the east stand so I had assumed that it was a legitimate
try.
I have to say I was very happy it ended up going to the TMO and
that it was changed and it would have been interesting to see if
that would have happened without the booing. I personally would
like to think that it would have as the TMO was clearly checking
anyway (as they are meant to always do) but that might just be
my overly optimistic view ;D

Agreed. I believe I experienced this chap once when he
criticised a ref's decision to award a penalty. I asked him what
he thought it was for and why he didn't agree (as I thought the
ref was 100% correct) and he had no idea what the decision was.
He only knew that he disagreed with any referee penalising us.
Made me laugh.

I always thought it didn't matter if there was a touch or not
but rather an opposition player intentionally preventing a
player from tackling or attempting to tackle which is granted
open for different interperations, as such I thought it was
awarded because Brew monitored Earle's movements and reacted to
move into different support lines to stop Earle having the
opportunity to tackle back.

Well if its true that he was pushed rather than jumping from us
it may explain his attitude a little. Still don't see why a
player can't interact with the crowd tbh, even though that is a
bit football I guess....
