The booing for the try was totally justified and without it the
try would have been given and we would be on 6 and not 8 points.
It was blatant cheating right in front of me in the west stand.
Booing every decision is wrong but I would prefer passionate
fans rather than those who sit quitly listening to reff link
contributing nothing to the atmosphere

Thread title is ' This is not Soccer' and that is precisely what
sprung to my mind when Roberts scored his first try .. holding
his hand up to his ear to the North Stand in a mock " cant hear
you cheering now" salute was unnecessary .
I thought his passion to win on Saturday was very melodramatic
and I couldn't help thinking I wish hed shown that level of
interest when he played for us .
I thought the booing was fine , Aled Brew was zig zagging down
the pitch looking over his shoulder to block Earle . NFL style .

He was aiming at GA, which is overwhelmingly Quins, and quite
vociferous.

Just to play Devil's Advocate for a moment, isn't that - in part
at least - what home advantage is all about? Or do you prefer to
clap politely while the oppo come in and raid us for five
points? *cough*Munster*cough* I'm not defending offensive
behaviour in the slightest, personal vitriol aimed at opposition
players or fans is simply not on. But neither do I want the
Stoop to become a place where other teams are comfortable and
can bank on easy points - if that means booing blatantly rotten
decisions and cheating behaviour then so be it. If that means
not giving the kicker cathederal-like silence for the kicks then
so be it. We all look to New Zealand as the producers of the
perennially finest team in the World, but I can't see the Eden
Park faithful sitting on their hands and clapping politely when
somethign doesn't go their way.
Manners is one thing - clap a good opposition play, clap an
opposition player off the pitch - but for God's sake don't give
up the family jewels for the sake of being Nice Guys.

The “rugby is better than football” made up morality is one of
the reasons it’s not expanding faster. Classist horse poop and
patently not true - especially since we are best remembered for
an episode of blatant cheating.

Sorry - can't agree with this. Rugby, currently, IS better than
football for a couple of reasons, but the biggest reason is the
respect the players have for the referee. If rugby players ever
end up surrounding and shouting abuse at the referee on the
pitch, that's when I will stop watching. Also, the level of bad
language in the stadium is gradually getting worse, but is
nothing like that at football - same applies to crowd trouble.
Again, if we ever have segregated stadia for Rugby, that will be
the end of it for me.
As for the booing - it's happened before, but seems a bit more
prevalent now. I don't mind it if it is proportionate - I've
done it myself on occasion when blatant cheating has been
missed, but I'll always stay quiet for the kicks. Hate the "off
off off" chant - in my mind, that would sway the ref the other
way.
One thing that is needed though is a passionate crowd. When I
started going regularly, we were very well mannered, and it took
quite something to get the centre of the East fired up. Not so
much these days - and much better for it! Keep the noise up, and
we may even get back to Fortress Stoop.

I stopped watching football because of the crowd hostility,
appalling behaviour of players and swearing in the crowd
etc....but I think rugby banging on about being "better" is a
bad strategy is all.
Plenty to be proud of without wanging on about it. A fine line
to argue I realise but it's just what I think.

Last football match I went to I was cornered by a group of
opposition thugs at halftime less than politely inquiring if "
you want some scarlet to go wiv dat white scarf" as they waved
stanley knives at me.
Nuff said.
