That piece doesn't make any sense.
       --- Quote ---
       > It was March 2020 when former England assistant Gustard, who
first jumped into coaching at Saracens in 2008, was given a
contract extension offer at Quins but it never got signed.
Rather than commit to staying at The Stoop for longer than the
three years he was originally contracted for, he sounded out the
market, reckoned Italy was the best fit and it prompted
Harlequins to take action, ushering Gustard out the exit last
January with five months of the season – and of his existing
       contract – still remaining.
       --- End Quote ---
So he was given a contract extension offer by Quins in March
2020, didn't sign it for the rest of the year, and then was
ushered out of the exist in 2021 because he was shopping around?
Nothing to do with how dismal the rugby had become?
       --- Quote ---
       > At the start of last season, although the narrative that can
sometimes come out is that we won two from eight, one game of
the eight was called off due to Covid and the teams lost to were
Exeter, Bristol, Racing and Munster. If you look at the
(Harlequins) team in the regular season, they lost to Bristol
       and Exeter again.
       --- End Quote ---
Here he prays no-one remembers the difference between the ones
we lost with him in charge and the ones we lost without him.
Hey, Paul, remember the Exeter loss you led Quins for? Humped
33-3 at home. The one we lost when you were gone? 21-20, at
Sandy Park. Bristol? Lost by 8 points at home under Gustard.
Lost by 2 points at Ashton Gate without him.
Racing? We were humiliated 49-7 at home.
The absolute nerve of the guy to act like this. What a fraud.
       --- Quote ---
       > You move forward, you move onto the next thing and the number
of messages that I got from fellow coaches, players that I had
coached in the past, players at the club, all shocked or
surprised or passing on their best wishes.
       >
       > “Like a couple of them said, you have now joined a very elite
band of people who have gone on to bigger and better things post
the event where you move on early in the contract.
       --- End Quote ---
Yeah, going from head coach of a Premiership club - who turned
things round to become champions as soon as you left - to the
defence coach at an Italian club is definitely having "gone on
to bigger and better things". Unless, of course, you mean that
Treviso have yet to be turned into a laughing stock.

The 1st part would make sense timing wise with the year or so
they normally allocate to find a new head coach but it seems odd
if Quins had just left it with him to January, then decided to
get rid. And agree entirely with the dismal rugby being a good
       reason!

And of course beating them both in the semi and final, playing
some of the most entertaining rugby most of us will have ever
seen, just to add insult to his injury ;D

Why worry about anything he says, he left and Quins reacted
       positively and Won the Premiership.....

Arniepie always said Gustard was a massive throbber (my term I
accept) and that’s been proven correct.

I guess Gustard took the approach of trying to lower the age of
the squad but didn't Joe Marler hint that it was the recruitment
       chap who handled it badly?

That was Mike Brown himself in Daily Mail I think.
