       Quins’ unluckiest player
   DIR By: Rigoletto

I was mulling over my cocoa about some of the players of
promise who have joined us only to be beset by injury or other
misfortune. I’m sure there are plenty of other clubs which
experience this but we seem to have had a few. The ones that
       sprang to mind were:
the very unfortunate Dimitri Catarakilis. Sad we never saw the
best of him after that terrible injury.
Australian Mark Reddish (did he ever play?)
Paul Doran Jones. Injured most of the time and underwhelming on
the few occasions he did play. (But probably the best anagram of
       June Porno Salad)
A much heralded ZAF second row whose name now escapes me.
Sportingly agreed to cancel his contract and return to ZAF when
it was clear he might never play.
Any others you can think of?

Abbott - got crocked on debut at Twickenham and never played for
       us again.

Ollie Smith got injured early on too playing for Quins.
Gonzalo Tiesi was a great player but seemed injured quite
       regularly.
I still say to this day the worst signing I have ever seen was
Tim Fairbrother could not scrummage well and did nothing around
       the pitch.

Abbot - good shout, I’d forgotten him. Tiesi was injured a fair
bit but in my mind I recall seeing him play quite a few times.
ImThe South African lock was Geo Cronje.

The "Arbiter Of Mirth" and "June Porno Salad" were one the same
       plane...

Jonas Mikalcius who dislocated his knee in the pre season 7s.
Looked a promising big winger who’d done well in the pre season
friendliest. Spoke to him when he was at Scottish a couple of
seasons ago and that injury killed any top flight aspirations
but he loves playing so took any opportunity going. Playing in
the Championship is still a decent standard to enjoy rugby at
       though.

He's a kiwi but yes he did play, 2 or 3 times I think. If I
remember rightly I think it was concussion related issues that
made him retire early. Shame as he was a handy lock from what
I'd seen of him in super rugby.

The Bok lock was Geo Cronje, I think.
Tiesi wasn’t injured that often, but had the misfortune to pick
up a 4-5 week injury (a concussion, IIRC) and by the time he was
fit again George Lowe had his hands firmly on the shirt and
deservedly so. Tiesi’s bad luck was to be injured when there was
an even better player ready to step up, much like the Cat.
I’d probably say that Lowe’s career ending dislocated head puts
him in contention for the title. He was a great club player but
he could have been so much more if he’d had a full career.

       What about Geo Cronje ?
I spent and evening in a bar chatting with Cronje just as I did
in Jersey a few years back when Gustard took control at Quins
       with Johan Ackermann.
both very interesting guys to have convo with.

I was looking forward to seeing a bit more of Campagnaro before
he got that injury fairly early on.
       And of course Catrakalis
