He was very good today lovely break for the second try.
Makes you think who have been Quins back up fly half’s in the
last 15 years and which one was the best/worst (I may forget
some) not chronological just when they came into my head.
Adrian Jarvis
Chris Malone
Waisea Luveniyali
Ben Botica
Benjamin Urdapilleta
Demitri Catrakillis (probably starting fly half to be fair)
Brett Herron
Rory Clegg
Tim Swiel
Will Edwards
James Lang
Louis Grimoldby
Yes he comes above all of them
I still remember Malone missing a kick at home against Wasps
about 20 metres out in front of the posts.
Less said about Botica and Foden the better.
Remember Cleggs kicking horror show away at Exeter in 2011/12
season.
Never really had a strong back up for Mehrtens, Evans and now
Smith. Urdapiellta has made the most of his career and been a
main stay in France.

I seem to remember Adrian Jarvis being our starting fly half for
a good couple of seasons?!

Really pleased with what I've seen of Tommy Allan so far. If he
keeps going the way he did today and has done in pre-season,
he's going to push Marcus hard.

Tabai seems to agree with you, based on his post match
interview. If Allan can achieve that, we will be in a very good
position

Can any one tell me who stands in for Marcus and Tommy when they
are on international duty? And who is on the bench?

Botica *was* dreadful in the back half of his time with us, but
people sort of forget that he did a pretty good job in his first
two seasons. Starting fly half in the team that won the LV Cup
and held his nerve to boot a last minute penalty against
Scarlets that put us into the last 8 of the challenge cup the
season after (when second place teams with insufficient points
in the Heineken cup could still drop down into the challenge
cup). I think he got progressively worse because he started less
frequently and was often asked to play at 12 - and he definitely
was not a 12!

The short answer is Will Edwards.
The longer answer is that it may be irrelevant. For starters,
the questions should definitely be if and not when. As much as I
do think Marcus should and will get the call from England for
the AIs, it’s definitely not a given and as far as Allan goes,
he’s not longer guaranteed to be in the Italy squad. Not because
he’s not up to it, but because they’re putting their faith in
developing Garbisi.
Anyway, it’s all a moot point because we were firmly told a
couple of weeks ago that Allan is ‘not international class’ ;)

I think that Allan will have been signed on the basis that Italy
no longer require him. When Marcus is away it is likely that
Edwards will be the back up 10, though Green was originally
signed as a fly half and was listed as such on offy just a
couple of weeks ago

Also, he was a very good place kicker (certainly better than
NeV). He had a much longer range.
Basically, he was good when he started a game - as he knew what
position he was going to be playing in. When he was on the
bench, he was basically a utility player who would usually come
in at 12 - and even switch to 10 during the game. During these
games, he was often pretty average.
Sadly, we only remember him for the 2 howlers. The first howler
was actually a combination of errors. Firstly, we should never
have been defending our 5 yard line at the end. Secondly, the
scrum half should have taken care of putting the ball out of
play. Thirdly, I am pretty sure that the ball did go out and the
touch judge didn't rule it. Lastly, the team should have been
able to defend against Foden's try.
For the Montpellier game, we simply didn't play well enough in
the first 79 minutes. No point blaming the end kick.
