Until people stop feeling betrayed by it, I suspect. As fans we
were robbed of years of fair competition by a side that hasn't
been properly punished for it. They only copped that punishment
a season ago - how quickly do you think we should forget?

       Hi all,
Going back to the original red card issue, does this mean that
irrelevant the severity of the red card, a team can still return
       to 15 after 20min?
Why don't they just introduce a 3rd card, orange perhaps?
Yellow - 10 min sin bin
Orange - 20 min sin bin, player needs to be subbed off and
       replaced
Red - team down to 14 players for remainder of match.

Because the aim is not to overly punish the team for a single
       player's transgression.

I'd add that having a third card makes the ref's job even harder
as it'll be them (with the assistance from their Assistants
running the lines & TMO) having to make a judgement call
regarding the severity. It's bad enough already for them when
they're making a call with everyone second guessing the
       decision.
Remember back to the Semi-final & the potential infringement by
Northmore at the end. If we had a third card option, that's FOUR
potential decisions that can be made by the ref. Barnes & the
TMO ended up making the decision it was a legal tackle, but with
a different reffing team who knows what the decision would be.
Some refs might take the view that a yellow is now a weaker
sanction given the option of an "Orange" and decide to issue a
       yellow just to be "safe".

Similarly, they would maybe issue an Orange rather than a Red...

The Red card is there to punish serious offences, no one wants
one as it let's their team mates down. It keep a lid on the hot
heads as facing the dressing room after you have been a berk
and potentially lost your team the match is not where anyone
wants to be. If your player punches a person in the 2nd minute
of the match and get red carded you should suffer for the whole
game full stop. Yes you could say it ruins the contest but it
is possible to win when down to 14 just harder. The point of
red is to drive the behaviour out of the game, if you have a
player who picks up three reds a season they will soon have to
       learn or not get picked

It does raise the possibility of the "tactical" red card. You
know you're going to get it, but if you take out their main
playmaker then your team only has to survive 20 minutes and then
       your team has the advantage.

You could actually start the game with a totally dispensable
thug in the team have him crock the opposition star man see out
the next twenty minutes and then it is as you say but with no
       worries about any future suspension!

I'm afraid I have no knowledge of the NHL. My dubious tactics
       are all my own work!
