Looks like we need Fazlet to get a minor niggle to force EJ to
look elsewhere then.

Why do their defence and distribution have to be 'markedly
better' if they can also bring an attacking element that Farrell
lacks almost completely? Ignoring how often Faz misses tackles
or throws awful passes, why do players need to be markedly
better than him in every facet of the game to be considered?

It's pretty clear that, at least to Eddie, you only have to be
better in the facet of the game that he wants to prioritise - as
with dropping Brown for Daly, who was and still is inferior in
every aspect of fullback play except creativity in attack and
long range kicking.
In the case of 12, though, I do suspect that for the moment it's
defence and distribution that are carrying the day, because we
don't (Tuilagi aside) have a crash ball runner who has made a
strong case and because the creativity in attack (such as it is)
is at 10 and 15. If there were a sufficiently creative 12 whose
defence was still up to international standard, they might get
the nod.
But I do not know who that is.
So lay it out for us. Which EQ 12 is consistently performing
better than Farrell at the moment, and in what facets of the
game? Who's the obvious replacement?

Fine.
Alex Lozowski - a more consistent defender, a better passer, and
a vastly better runner
Piers O'Conor - a slightly worse defender, a much better passer,
a vastly better runner
Ollie Devoto - an equal defender, an equal passer, and a much
stronger call carrying option
Henry Slade - a poorer defender, a vastly superior passer, and a
much more dangerous runner (and I don't LIKE Slade at 12)
Farrell's been pony for 12 months, and even when he wasn't in
this extended run of poor form, he frequently displayed flaws
with his game that his fans in the media like to pretend don't
exist. And we haven't even talked about his discipline...
Farrell's defence is often actually pretty bad, so no idea why
everyone else gets held to an impossible standard while he gets
a free pass every time. At least Gatland had the guts to
recognise that Farrell was miles off the pace.

I still think there’s a chance Farrell does get dropped with it
being publicly referred to as a rest.
