Smith - Lions rest period

According to an interview with George Skivington every Lions
🦁 tourist, whatever their involvement, has a compulsory
10 week rest starting from the completion of the 3rd test. Means
he’s unavailable until mid October

In that case, let’s hope Allan settles quickly.
Seems like a very long rest for any players who haven’t been in
the test sides. Obviously Marcus could play next week, but even
if he does, I think it’s unlikely it would be more than a cameo
appearance.
I know he’s had no break whatsoever, but it does seem strange
that a player with 80mins vs. one of the provincial sides weeks
ago has the same rest period as the players who will feature in
all three test matches.
You’d have to think this will be costly for Exeter
(Cowan-Dickie, Simmonds, Hogg) and Saracens (Mako, George,
Itoje, Farrell, Daly, Koch), particularly when the AIs start in
early November.

Interesting. I wonder how that applies to players from the other
home nations/SA?
Absentees could be:
Bath: Faletau, Watson
Bristol: Sinckler
Exeter: Cowan-Dickie, Hill, Hogg, Simmonds
Gloucester: Harris, Rees-Zammit
Harlequins: Smith
Leicester: van Staden, Wiese
Northampton: Biggar, Lawes
Sale: Curry, de Jager, de Klerk (not sure about the du Preez
twins and Oosthuizen?)
Saracens: Daly, Farrell, George, Itoje, Koch, Vunipola
Worcester: van der Merwe, Sutherland
I think that’s everyone? Saracens, Exeter and Sale are hit hard
as well as potentially Sale (not sure if the du Preez boys are
already at home?). Given the AIs and the Rugby Championship will
be starting hot on the heels of the rest period, it’s going to
be a weird season.
From a Quins POV starting our title defence without our most
important player is a big deal, but we’re actually one of the
least affected. Allan is a good player and with a full
preseason, he should have adequate time to get settled etc.
Strangely, it could be an opportunity for us to get off to a
good start.
It probably favours Bristol and Leicester too.

I'd bet that Sale will class de Klerk and de Jager as not having
to stick to the 10 week rule as they aren't "Lions players".

Season starts a bit later still this year doesn't it? So he'd
only miss about 3 games if mid Oct is the case?

Maybe, but they’ll almost certainly be in SA’s Rugby
Championship squad. Possibly the du Preez twins and Oosthuizen
too.

The season starts on 19th Sept. we have a bye early on, so I
think it’s 4 games he’d be missing (Newcastle away, Worcester
and Bristol at home and then the Enya game).

I have a terrible memory for these things but I seem to remember
we miss Marcus a lot, i.e. we were generally rubbish without
him. But did he miss any games after we started playing well?

No doubt we miss him when he’s not there, but the drop off from
Smith to Allan is nothing like as severe as it was from Smith to
Herron.
I know Allan’s yet to play a game for us, but he’s a proven test
standard 10 so I’m confident he’ll be good, or at worst, decent.
Also, I don’t have any worries about him settling in from a
cultural POV. English is his first language and he’s spent most
of his life in the UK (Scotland and England).

I expect that will mean Benson should be on the bench with a
realistic shout of getting some game time. Or do we have any
part time fly halves? I lose track of who's in the squad.
