HARLEQUINS IS DELIGHTED TO ANNOUNCE THAT FORMER NFL MAN
CHRISTIAN SCOTLAND-WILLIAMSON WILL RETURN TO RUGBY WITH
HARLEQUINS

Joining Harlequins ahead of the 2021/22 season via the NFL’s
Pittsburgh Steelers, Scotland-Williamson becomes the Club’s
fourth new signing ahead of the new season.
A former Loughborough University student, Scotland-Williamson
joins Harlequins having spent three years in the NFL with the
Steelers, having previously played in the Premiership with
Worcester Warriors.
A tight end in American Football, Scotland-Williamson made his
name in rugby as a bone-crunching second row during his time
with Worcester, with videos of his physical play going viral in
2017 in a Premiership match against Wasps Rugby.
Standing at 6ft 9ins (2.06m) and weighing in at 124kg (19st
5lb), the 28-year-old adds to the Club’s wealth in depth the
second row, with the ability to cover the back row also.

Commenting on his move, Scotland-Williamson said: “It is an
extremely exciting time for me to be stepping back into rugby.
To come back and play for the Premiership Champions is a
fantastic opportunity. I have had some time to think about my
next step and have watched the team go from strength to
strength. The Club has a group of talented players and you can
see the culture is starting to produce some eye-catching
results.
“I have learned some valuable lessons from my time in America
and am coming back to rugby with a different perspective.
Performing on the highest stage is a privilege and one I don’t
take for granted. Harlequins play an attractive brand of rugby
and play the game the right way. I am looking forward to working
with the Coaches to take another step forward in my career.”
Welcoming Scotland-Williamson, Harlequins Scrum Coach Adam Jones
said: “Christian is a fantastic athlete with strong roots in
rugby. We’re pleased he has chosen to make his return to rugby
with Quins, I know he is itching to get into the environment
during pre-season and hit the ground running.
“Christian has had a wonderful chance to experience the NFL over
the last few years off the back of impressing during his time
with Worcester and I’m sure he’ll bring that experience into our
team and contribute well to our levelling up as a team. We’re
looking forward to seeing him rip into training and add to the
competition and quality with have in the second row.”

Intriguing signing, could be a brilliant one if he can get back
up to rugby speed quickly.
Symons and Lewies are undisputedly the first choice pairing but
we’ve seen that they breakdown too often. Lamb was great coming
on in the run in, and hopefully tizard and Hammond will continue
their development. But hopefully CSW will provide another more
“senior” option.
Still want another big brute of a backrow and potentially
another fly half and winger. But I have a feeling that he could
be the last signing

Line out and 6 feet 9 inches with hands like shovels. Looks like
a very useful addition.
Gonna to add some serious muscle to the team next season :)

Although he is a big bloke, he carries it well, quite athletic.
I think he could turn out to be a pretty good signing.

Is CSW enough of a baby eater for those of you who have been
desparate for a genuine baby eating lock?

I think he will be a good addition. I think we will see him more
than we did of Tex.
I'd still like another Backrow/8 cover as any injuries or call
ups for Dombrandt and Chisholm it already leaves us thin on the
ground, as I dont think White is in the same league as
Kenningham for academy players who've stepped up. Not to say he
wont, but I wouldn't want to start him week him week out.

I note they mention he can also play back row - as a tight end
he would need to be quick with good hands, and able to play as
lineman, blocker or receiver. He could be our backup to
Dombrandt at 8 (perhaps swapping with one of the others at scrum
time, though)

I think he's too big to be a decent lineout option, if I
remember his stats correctly.

Doesn't that depend on his lifters? I'd have thought Wilco and
Marler could get him airborne.

I guess so, but I'm only going by his stats from his final half
season with Wuss - 8 games from the bench, 192 minutes played, 1
lineout won.
