       HUW JONES SIGNS FOR HARLEQUINS
  HTML https://www.quins.co.uk/news/huw-jones-signs-for-harlequins/
       Tuesday, 6th July 2021 @ 11:00
HARLEQUINS IS DELIGHTED TO ANNOUNCE THE SIGNING OF SCOTLAND
INTERNATIONAL HUW JONES AHEAD OF THE 2021/22 SEASON
Born in Edinburgh and raised in Kent, Jones, 27, has represented
Scotland on 31 occasions to date. A versatile player able to
cover multiple positions across the backline, Jones made his
international debut in 2016 against Japan in Tokyo, with his
most recent cap coming during the 2021 Six Nations against
France at the Stade de France in Paris.
After moving to Cape Town, South Africa, during a gap year Jones
earned his breakthrough within the professional game playing for
the Stormers in Super Rugby, where he played alongside current
Quins prop Wilco Louw and against centre Andre Esterhuizen and
       Club Captain Stephan Lewies.
Jones subsequently signed for Glasgow Warriors as his Test
career took off, playing for the Scottish side for four years,
scoring 12 tries in 49 appearances.
Excited to begin his new chapter, Jones said: “I’m thrilled to
sign for Harlequins. To be able to join the reigning Premiership
champions and a side that plays such an attractive brand of
rugby is a rare opportunity and one that I couldn’t turn down.
“The Quins way of playing was an attractive prospect, but
there’s also something unique building here with a special team.
There’s a great playing group here and some fantastic coaches
and I can’t wait to get stuck in.
“Quins are looking to build upon their trophy win this season,
and I’m looking forward to playing my part in that journey.”
Commenting on Jones’ arrival, Attack and Backs Coach Nick Evans
said: “It’s great to have Huw signed on with us here at Quins.
Huw made a big impact when he burst onto the scene a few years
ago and has fantastic instincts for the game.
“Huw is an attack-minded player, and we believe he will fit into
the Harlequins way well. We look for players who will suit the
Harlequins DNA, and we see that in Huw. We’re excited to see him
link up with the squad this summer as we look to build upon last
       season’s success.”

Definitely adds to our back division - but I still worry about
how we will cover 12 if Andre is out.

Jones has been signed with the intention of playing him at 12 if
       we are missing Andre.

Well, that's got to be the hope - but I thought he didn't have
       much experience there?

I think we might see Northmore playing more at 12 tbh...

That's the other option - he was a 12 in the highlights real
when we signed him. He might need to bulk up a bit, though, and
I hope it won't affect his pace too much.

Looks like almost a straight swap for Lang - versatile and
Scottish capped; with Lasike injured until next year and a bunch
of academy prospects, our attack-minded three quarters is
served. Hopefully Jones also has a defensive gene.

There's also Anyanwu who we might see get some more starts next
season. In terms of his physique, he looks to me to be bulking
       into more of a 12 than a 13. Obviously there's more to a 12 than
just that but I tend to side with you - I do think it helps to
be carrying a little bit extra into tighter channels. So I'd
love to see Anyanwu step in and fill the 12 understudy gap while
Lasike is injured, as Northmore has been SO effective at 13 for
us. I just have a feeling Northmore might get some game time at
12 until the coaches feel Anyanwu is primed.
When Lasike's back (and if I assume that Northmore/Anywanwu
might be played at both 12 and 13) our options look pretty good
       across the board...
12: Esterhuizen, Lasike, Northmore, Anyanwu, Hyde
13: Marchant, Northmore, Jones, Anyanwu, Beard
Jones has played a fair bit at 15 lately too I believe - maybe
we'll see more of him there. I haven't personally seen him play
FB, but if he is any good there a bit of competition for Green
       can't hurt.
