I trust that we’ve given this due consideration and I’m pleased
       to welcome him on board.
How about we give him the benefit of the doubt and just get
       behind him?
The relentless negativity or glass half empty mentality of some
       posters genuinely puzzles me.

And NZRU kept him on board - in a different role which was
arguably a promotion and certainly a development opportunity.
The point is that it wasn't a club-level thing - they were
looking at the whole coaching roster and working out where best
to put them, both for the clubs and for the All Blacks setup as
       a whole.

But did they "keep him on board"? The Quins' press release says
he is joining us "following the conclusion of his role as Head
Coach of the New Zealand U20s side."

I suppose one could read it either way.

It's set out in some detail in the Quins' press release.

No it is an old interview going back quite a few years will try
       and find it

As long as his appointment has the buy-in from the existing
coaches and senior players, and he's here to compliment what has
been established, not overhaul it, then hopefully we can all get
behind him. It does slightly beg the question what "extra
resources in the coaching department" were identified in the
middle of last season that haven't been resolved since in
delivering a Premiership title? I appreciate there may have been
a gap to fill when Gustard left, but the existing coaching group
and senior players seem to have more than filled it

They kept him on board when they reshuffled the countrywide
coaching setup, moving him from a club role to the U20s. I
assume the fact that he hasn't come over means he's seeing out
his role with the U20s to the end of their season, and is only
then free to join Quins. He's not moving mid-season like Gustard
       or Diamond did.
We never really know with these types of move how much is "jump"
and how much is "be pushed", but when someone moves to be Head
Coach of a leading international team and brand, it's not
usually because they're at a loose end somewhere else and have
       nothing better to do.

Yes, whatever the "gap" is — whether it's in aspects of
coaching, or recruitment, or general management (which I thought
was Millard's brief?) — it would be helpful to know, then we can
see what he's adding, where, and how the coaches relate to him.
Is he their boss for example? Is he Millard's boss, or are they
on a level, reporting to, say, Laurie? If he is the coaches'
boss, presumably he has power to hire and fire, and/or to tell
them he wants aspects of the game played or coached differently.
