JTH is listed as an Academy coach on the website. He stepped up
to help out during the "Interregnum".

Lots and lots of express and implied references to "not changing
any of the existing coaches" — which is good. Mind you, there is
nothing whatsoever in Matson's CV that impresses me, so he must
have interviewed well. But then again, apparently so too did JK
and PG ...
"Matson joined Premiership side Bath Rugby in 2016 as the side’s
Head Coach before returning to New Zealand to coach with the
Chiefs in Super Rugby, with Fiji internationally and as the Head
Coach of the All Blacks U20s." That sounds to me like 4 jobs in
4 years (the Chiefs sacked him in 2020), with us now becoming
number 5.

Somewhere I read that he is very keen on Senior players being
very involved and taking responsibility and not over coaching

I assume that he read that in a recent UK press interview with
the current coaches. At least he remembered it and was able to
recite it, I suppose.

ways.

It's worth remembering that the way some of the coaches
(including Matson in his time at the Chiefs) are actually
employed by the NZRU rather than the club/region themselves. He
was out of contract at the end of the 2020 Super rugby season,
and with Gatland being off on his Lions duty, the Union decided
that to have a wholescale shakeup of the coaching setup at that
point made sense.

But does one have a "wholesale shakeup of the coaching setup" if
one already has a great coach on board ...?

Is his CV available publicly? Which bits didn't you like?

The point is that the NZRU will have not just reshuffled things
in isolation. They manage things tightly all for the benefit of
"Brand All Blacks" first, then NZ Super Rugby second.

He left Bath for family reasons. The Fiji stuff was alongside
his usual work with NZ sides.
Agree that he wasn't renewed at the Chiefs and had his
application for the head coach role turned down, which isn't a
great sign. But unless you're a successful head coach, in NZ
you're gonna move around a bit.
