BQ - I do agree with the idea that "you know what you're gonna
get" with Joe Simmonds is perhaps why he's not been called up,
but Umaga just isn't international quality. He's struggled to be
starting-for-wasps quality for some time.

much better player at 13.

Even better at 23 then!

I think I might pop down to the bookies and put a tenner on a
string of freak injuries ending in a call up to the Lions for
Jack Kenningham. It's the logical endpoint of the way his season
has gone so far.

I wasn't advocating Umaga particularly, just that Joe S needs a
rest; if England were playing anyone else this summer, then
there are indeed other FHs to try than Umaga...

I'm not sure I'm on board with players needing a rest and
skipping internationals because they've played a full domestic
season, when they are uncapped and have never been part of the
squad before. George Ford yes, Joe Simmonds no. It's an odd way
to treat the other outstanding young flyhalf :-)

I agree, generally, but you could make the case that Exeter have
played an extended season (with extra European and Premiership
play-offs) and as mentioned before, these next games are against
pretty average opponents and maybe EJ feels he will learn more
about how Smith (particularly) and Umaga (less so) fit in
playing the style he wants them to play in (or, shock, play
what's in from of you) than a FH whose game he identifies with,
but who looks knackered and is probably at an emotional low,
having lost a final. Has he, perhaps, picked up an injury?
You can make cases for any of them really, although I share your
apprehension about Umaga. Looking at other alternatives (other
than Simmonds), there are few English FH contenders that spring
to mind.

Slight OT - Will the bars at the Stoop be open for this fixture?
I believe its 40,000 allocated so some good footfall. I have
tickets for England Canada so ideally would swing in for a few
liveners before kick off.
