Whoever it is has a lot to live up to! Clearly we’ve got a good
squad, but…..

According to The Rugby Paper, Tabai Watson will be unveiled as
the new head coach next week.

Billy M has said several times that they are announcing the
appointment next week. Whoever it is, I hope they bring a light
touch, forward looking approach that keeps the accountability in
the hands of the players and the coaching quintet, but
challenges them to get better and think about what’s next.
It’s going to be a different shape of season next season. Most
teams have more senior players leaving than they have coming in,
because of the lower salary cap. Saracens are back, and taking
back some of their loaned players. Tigers and Saints are looking
competitive, so there will be six or seven teams duking it out
for dominance. It’s going to be another long season, with fewer
matches played in the sunshine.
Quins are in a good place, but success is not automatic. We flew
under the radar for a lot of this season, but there will be a
target in our backs next season and inevitably some dark
periods. The key thing the new head coach needs to bring is to
be able to steer the group through those downs without
everything falling apart. If they can do that, then Quins will
have chosen their man well.

Hate to put any kind of dampener on the end of this wonderful
season, but Tabai Matson was sacked as head coach (technically,
assistant coach, but the head coach is an appointment made by
Super Rugby) last September after the Chiefs 0-8 winless season
in Super Rugby Aotearoa. Maybe he interviews really well.

What we have to remember is that we are looking for someone
compatible with our existing coaches not a totally new set up.
Someone who is going to bolster the team . NEV hopefully with
some more experience may one day takeover if he does not receive
the call from the ABs first.

I've got a lot of faith in Dalrymple, and I don't believe they'd
bringing in a Head Coach/DOR for the sake of it.
Matson has a good reputation and we need someone who will
continue to empower the coaching staff and senior players. I
expect evolution rather than revolution. A few shrewd
acquisitions to ensure we have the necessary strength in depth,
and we should be well placed to compete next season.

This is not Dalrymple. Sean Fitzpatrick has been involved which
Billie told us on the zoom meeting whenever it was April/May.
