I don't like to criticise referees but he's not one of my
favourites. A poor communicator.

Round 20 last season away to Gloucester. Karl was ref. I think
he may have been assistant ref on other occasions also.

I'm not one for conspiracy theories, but if there is one referee
who is most likely to be presiding over an Exeter win, it feels
like it would be Carley. I hope that I am proven wrong by
outstanding, fair refereeing from someone who proves not
actually to be as insecure as he has come across heretofore.

I love criticising refs and I agree. Very unhappy that Pearce
wasn't chosen, as the standout ref this season.

I think it's entirely natural for fans to not like particular
refs and be disappointed when they're chosen. Once you've seen a
ref several times there's no reason to pretend you don't already
have an opinion on them :)

My non scientific observation is that games involving Carley as
ref have a significantly higher likelihood of flare ups and
fisticuffs vs. those that don't. It seems that he lets
flashpoints develop more than other refs. As I said before it's
down to the players to make the ref irrelevant, but those are my
observations on what happens in Carley's games vs. others.
