"Exeter boss Rob Baxter has criticised "frightening
inconsistency" in how dangerous tackles are being interpreted
after key forwards Sam Skinner and Dave Ewers were given
four-week bans." (BBC)
Are we seeing inconsistencies, or is it simply because this is a
crucial time in the season for Exeter and suddenly Rob Baxter is
more sensitive to his team's loss of key members of the team?
Mike Brown had exactly the same issue, but the problem was
timing during his final days with Quins and not the offence
itself.

Exeter are going out of their way to make themselves unlikable
at the moment.
The only inconsistency on display there was the mad decision not
to red card Ewers on the field of play.

Does the culture of continued success cultivate arrogance and
attract censure?
I don’t mean to point fingers at posters above, but I just
wonder whether habitual winning breeds contempt and the
inevitable reaction of the less successful; a few years ago,
Exeter were many peoples “second team”, especially when they
displaced the evil Saracens….

sometimes as in his stance on Covid.

Baxter's usually such a calm and rational fellow, but his
comments about these cards come across as irrational, uninformed
and asinine. I can see why people are starting to go off Exeter,
although this started happening for me a while ago - mainly
because I got bored of how well they were doing and how good
they were.

I've found Baxter to be increasingly hypocritical and narrow
minded. Exeter are losing popularity for sure.
They were "holy" when the Sarries debacle happened but seemed to
forget that their owner refused to allow staff of sponsor FlyBe
to come to the game with valid tickets after the company went
bust! These people had just lost their jobs man!
And the whole cultural appropriation thing does my nut. I'm no
lefty, but they have not taken the campaigns by their own
supporters seriously, continue to use chants, calls and
Headdress that is culturally sensitive alongside their own forum
being called Pow-Wow - derogatory much?
No issue with their success. They built an incredibly effective
game (if in my opinion massively boring), and that game has won
them titles. Fair play. But they do seem to have a "woe is me"
mindset where the whole world is against them and their players
can't surely have done something wrong.

A whole different set of pressure coming on Exeter these days,
and one that I don't imagine Baxter is used to. A real pressure
to compete and win within the salary cap and keep up the levels
of success. They've been up there for a few seasons now so it's
expected rather than just hoped for. Some odd utterances coming
out of the club these days too.
Similar will probably happen to Bristol in a couple of years. At
the moment Pat Lam and everything Bris is flavour of the year
with much fawning from the rugby world but soon success will
become expected and the pressure changes. Sarries dealt with the
pressure and kept winning using dodgy financials. Exeter and
Bristol don't have that luxury.

To be fair Baxter has previously had years of trying to compete
with a club blatantly not within the salary cap so I think he is
pretty used to that particular pressure

Trying to compete, yes. Actually competing and expected to beat
regularly, that's new to them I reckon.
