I think that what rankles most, is that they still go on
bragging about winning European and Domestic trophies, knowing
full well that the playing fields were not level. In other
sports, cheats have been stripped of titles and trophies,
frequently retrospectively, and not always with the awards being
reassigned.

But that was never a possibility. That’s the fault (for want of
a better word) of PRL for setting the regulations that way, not
Sarries.
Although I suspect that the CEOs will have agreed those regs so
maybe Wray made sure the rules worked that way.

Whilst I agree with your point about PRL you can't blame them
for the total lack of contrition and humility from the Cheats
and their continual bragging about all the trophies they stole.

In fairness to the players it wasn't their fault, as if it was I
would imagine a few bans would have been issued. They might have
suspected something but unless they all sat round a table and
added each others earnings, inducements and company shares then
how would they have been sure they were over the cap. I am sure
as well some feel that the club were treated harshly.

This wasn't a small overspend in a single year, it was
systematic and went on for several years, and many of their
leading players were involved in it. They wouldn't have copped
bans, because there's no limit to what a club can pay an
individual player, but they must have been aware that multiple
players had these deals, and that it wasn't entirely
straightforward - loans that you might not have to pay back,
appearance fees for appearances you don't have to make.
Even if they were able to blind themselves to what this means...
having the emotional intelligence to show a little humility
would go a long way. Sarries were relegated, remember, because
they chose not to open their books to demonstrate that they were
clean.

If that Saracens team had played Worcester or even Falcons they
would have put 50 points on them.
That result does not say anything about whether Ealing could
survive in the Premiership - I am sure they could beat Worcester
and compete with Falcons and Gloucester and possibly more. And
once their budget matches those clubs beat them.
But it will be used by those in favour of ring fencing to
suggest it is time to pull up the draw bridge - and of course
all that will do is permit teams like Worcester to coast.
