You're welcome to call yourself a mother, you are one! The point
is that they were suggesting in corporate policies to be a
little less gendered with their language. Stonewall does not
believe you are not a mother, that you shouldn't be called a
mother, or that the word mother should be banned. Just that when
writing a policy that is intended to cover all possible
employees, using language that would include (for example) trans
men who had given birth is a good inclusive thing.
Does that make sense? It's not something that would at all
impinge on your rights or alter who you are and how you define
yourself. It's about how corporations write things. That's all.

Stonewall are being dumped by just about everyone about this.
I’m not sure why women’s rights are such an issue for you.

No women's rights are being affected in the slightest by this,
       as I've explained.
Stonewall are being dumped because there's been a sustained and
concerted campaign against them by anti-trans groups and the
government is more than happy to stoke that themselves.
Corporations tend to not enjoy being hassled, so make the easy
decisions. It's not like they genuinely believe in LGBTQ+ rights
or anything apart from their bottom line and an easy life.
       Now I don't for a second believe there's a good faith discussion
brewing on this, but hey, have to try sometimes.

I think more places are dropping them for the Essex University
mess than some advice to make company policies cover everyone.
It's also mostly government agencies under pressure from
       ministers stoking anti-trans sentiment.
We've seen in this very thread how important it was to someone
to call themselves a mother. It therefore seems easy to imagine
how equally important it could be to a trans man that has given
birth to call themselves a father.
If a company is dropping Stonewall because they refuse to write
"parent who has given birth" in their parental-leave policies,
then I would have concerns about how inclusive that company
would be to non-binary and trans people.

Speaking as a traditionally non PC person (apparently, or so my
3 daughters keep telling me) one thing I can say is that I get
confused about what to say and how and when which has frankly
stymied my conversation in recent times. I am a good person, I
help Grannies across the road and give charitably in loads of
places but deciding whether to say I like Robinsons Golliwog or
       not is somewhat confoozling.
Difficult to teach an old dog new tricks but then offence is
usually in the ear of the hearer.

As with many things, doing things with the right intent counts
for a lot. Most people don't know many LBGTQ+ folks, and won't
have much experience. The key thing is to make the effort to
understand them as people and the experiences they go through
and to do what you can not to make things harder for them.
Changing habits is hard and you will make mistakes. Having a
genuine willingness to try is not, and is the key to doing the
       harder bit.

Actually I know quite a few LGBT people and some I have counted
as friends for over 40 years. I have also worked with many over
the years and some became close colleagues, but just as with my
African, Indian, Middle Eastern and Caribbean friends everyone
just accepted everyone as they were and we just enjoyed each
other’s company and did not need to pontificate about it!

Slightly Ot but For those who’ve been already, what’s the booze
situation for the west stand? I’m assuming bars are open before
kick off? Also, I’m assuming post game they are also still open?
My triumphant return to the stoop will be a glorious occasion

I'm in the west stand too. Reading the pre-match email blurb it
reads as though e-service in the east stand only and no outside
bars open...? We could be exceedingly parched! Do hope I've
       misinterpreted
