       I'll have a go.
       Mako (this one is tricky)
       LCD
       Furlong
       AWJ
       Itoje
       Beirne
       Curry
       Faletau
       Murray
       Adams (w)
       Biggar
       Farrell
       Henshaw
       Watson (w)
       Hogg
But rather the point is that Gatland largely selects his Test
team before they even leave, then he plays "mostly first choice"
and "mostly backup" on tour. A lot of decisions will already
have been made, and when you see the 'big' tour games he'll
select something that's basically his Test side even if it's the
first game those guys will play together. It's not about being
clairvoyant or that Gatland is predictable - it's that he's made
a lot of decisions already and that that will influence his
selections in the early games, rather than trying to give
everyone a fair shake at a Test place.
Does that make sense? I'm not claiming I know what Gatland is
thinking here, I know my guess at his Test team at this stage is
likely wrong. But I'll be hugely surprised if it's not really
obvious who he thinks is his Test side early on.

With respect, your last sentence is subtly different to “The
problem is you can pretty much guess about 12-13 of his Test
side before they even play a game.”
For the record, I’d hope you’re right that he has an idea based
on current form as to who he’d pick if the first test were this
weekend. That’s not to agree however that this is the XV that he
is aiming to have run out on July 24th. As we’ve seen from
Porter and the SA players at Munster, a lot can change between
       now and then.
I’d expect Gatland to at least see who arrives in SA fit and
       healthy.

Yeah you're right, I got muddled up there.
       1) I think Gatland has pretty much nailed on his Test XV - with
the exception of a couple of positions - already.
       2) I think it'll be very clear within the first couple of tour
matches what his 1st XV will look like.
Gatland doesn't do the traditional Lions thing of letting tour
form dictate selection in the majority of cases. He has a first
team and the dirt trackers set out from the start. He has form
for picking players for the tests who have not been good in the
tour (or even barely featured!) and we're a long way from the
days when a touring party was given a fair shake at test
       selection.
Woodward was pilloried for the same approach, of course.

Largely I fear that this is perhaps a symptom of how the tours
are now structured. Shorter time in country and no time together
       pre-tour.
