All valid points if it had happened in the 65th or even the 75th
minute, but not in the 85th minute, when there's only one play
left in the game. Maybe they should have different laws
specifically for the last couple of minutes of the game, as it
really does make a huge difference.

I dunno, I think if you're going to have someone yellow carded
for technical offences at a set piece, losing a player on top of
having to replace him seems fair at all times in the game. Even
if it's the last play of the game - the scrum is just a
contested restart after all. If they wanted an uncontested one,
they had other options (and a numerical advantage).
Maybe there should be a rethink of yellow cards for props,
though? Given it's usually not a deliberate action and just the
culmination of a slight weakness in a huge 16-man set piece,
perhaps penalty tries should be more common and props being
yellowed less common?

Like 10 points for a try? Or no forward passes if you score try
to win the game?
Apologies - those are ridiculous, of course, but I can't see any
good reason for having different laws of the game at different
periods of the match...

Already happening. The captain’s challenge being trialled in the
Rainbow Cup (and down South) has different rules in the last 5
(?) minutes.

There was a lot of that going on. I think that's why they
brought in the law about losing a man if you go to uncontested
scrums. As I remember, the season that law came in there were
hardly any uncontested scrums whereas the season before they
were commonplace.

Per DOKs message I remember the Law change that meant losing a
player when going to uncontested scrums being very successful.
I think this was just a particularly badly implementation of
that Law, and should probably be fixed through referee training
rather than another change to the rule.

He tried the same thing at The Stoop. Came down to the touchline
in the dying minutes, repeated five meter scrums on the Wasps
line with our pack dominant. Edwards could clearly be heard
shouting "take a knee, take a knee" to one of their props. Block
FF decided to drown him out and the rest of the West Stand
joined in, scrum was reset, try scored, game won

IIRC it was because Wasps were continually going to uncontested
scrums that the rules were changed.

Maybe he was just ahead of his time asking players to taker a
knee?
