       Mike Brown at 11

Any astute observers out there who can provide the rationale
behind Mike Brown moving to Left Wing for England and now Quins?
Whatever the logic, it seems to be working. A couple of tries
against SA, and Morris looked like a class act at 15 on
       Saturday.

Well against Sale last Saturday, maybe it was to counter the
threat of Solomona? I think someone else mentioned that as well.

-Perhaps a 'request' has come in from Eddie Jones..?

That's possible WQ, but doesn't explain the earlier England
       switch.

Maybe, but it's the reasoning I'm interested in. Any views?

I have no inside knowledge and wondered the same thing. Think we
can assume a call from Eddie was part of it and Gustard would
have been part of the initial decision at England.
My thought was is it to do with kick chase, we know Mike is one
of if not the best in the world in the air defensively, but he
chased every kick we put up on Saturday like a demon and made a
couple of tackles and was competitive in the air.
Perhaps we are kicking more and need better kick chasers. Lots
of teams also kick to the wings and again he is strong
defensively in that regard as well. Just a thought!

EJ has said he is always impressed with Mike Browns defensive
abilities , and Full Backs in general as a last line of defence
read the game well and are good tacklers .
Gustard selecting 3 players who have played at FB in Earle ,
Morris and Brown ticks all boxes as they have speed and tackling
ability and can cover each other if 2 get dragged forward .
Perhaps the coaching team feel AM is the quickest of the 3 ? ,
certainly the break for Earles try last week shows he has plenty
       of gas .
Im sure Walker , Visser etc will be spurred on to improve their
       defence.
Gustard's speciality is defence and shipping tries has been our
biggest problem , I think he will try to fix that first , then
       build on it .

It could equally have been that Gustard was involved in the
decision with England to move him to wing (as opposed to an
       Eddie request).
From my perspective, if there is a flickering concern about
Mike's pace, then he is better protected on the wing as it gives
him the touchline to work with. It also gives an added benefit
of a second player who is strong under the high ball, as well as
       a second kicking option.

Maybe they just feel that the qualities he offers are still ones
they want in the team, but that he has lost his top end pace and
so is not as affective at counter attacking from fullback, so
better to have someone faster there with him on the wing.
He's done pretty well there so far given how badly many,
including me, thought it would go. I'm still not convinced it's
the best long term option, but maybe it's not seen as a long
       term option.

Eddie’s line before the SA series was that they saw an
opportunity in having a winger who could attack the breakdown
and around the breakdown - Mike has long been one of the most
aggressive and effective outside backs at the breakdown, and his
running style suits attacking the fringes and tying up
       defenders.
