That was great. I knew as soon as Umaga tried to run that he was
doomed. Can't believe he thought he'd beat Green.

Green is a bit, well, green, callow; but like all good
Stellenbosch red wines, he'll mature nicely with age.

Earlier in the season pre/post-Gustard, we fell off games in the
last 20 - now we play until the 85 minute. Teams are adjusting
(re-adjusting?) to our style and are working out how to combat
it. But its hard for the clubs we've played since Gustard left
to contain us for the full 80 minutes, except Exe/Bris.
We'll know more about the squad and its mental agility/strength
after Tigers and Sale games, when we'll be up against it. I
think we can beat Tigers away - which would almost cement our
play-off hopes - but Sale away is good practise and insight for
the semis.
I think we'll struggle against Bristol and Exeter with full
sides as they can control possession and territory better - but
without three key players, it will be hard for Quins to gain
purchase. We've been lucky to have had a nearly full/preferred
team until May.
But you never know on the day...

I live in hope. I think the Bristol and Exeter games showed that
we do have enough to beat them - both those games (and the
Newcastle one) were lost at the death with the help of some
refereeing decisions that could easily have gone the other way.
And the “we’ll still beat you even playing half a game with 14
men” attitude is very new - something that has only emerged
since those losses; whoever we play will be aware of the team’s
ability to create and take chances they have no right to make,
and of our increasingly clinical scoring rate inside the 22 (I
don’t know how the match finished but to have a 7.0 scoring rate
at 60 or minutes is astonishing).
We’ll have to see how the team responds to the loss of
Esterhuizen, Evans and Brown - and we can’t afford to lose any
more! - but it may cut both ways. We had a particular style of
play with those three involved; we will have a very different
style without them, and our likely playoff opponents won’t have
experienced it. The way the team are playing that element of
unpredictability might actually work in our favour.

Red zone conversion was off the scale!
I think we have (just) enough to beat Tigers - it will be very
close either way - but at least we'll then have two weeks to
patch the team up more seriously and define an MO for the final
run in.

He certainly absolutely came to life in the second half once
Brownie was off and he moved back!
