It would be helpful to know how many of those missed tackles
were in the second half, certainly

If I remember correctly from looking at it at half time, he'd
already missed at least 3 by the break.

Yes, it has. Just saying it was a big problem yesterday,
unfortunately. Plenty of mitigation, including the frankly
patchwork nature of the backline defence long before Brown went
off, but he did get bumped too often. Plenty to work on.

Have to agree Jammy. He steps in a lot and seems to back his
pace to recover which works 50 metres out but harder inside your
own 22. That said, his chase down and tackle on Fakitoa was
excellent.

well I seem to remember Brown was sent off for 10 in the first
half as well as 35 minutes of the second, I think I'd forgive
Green the 7 missed tackles, thought he put in a really good
performance yesterday, 45 minutes covering for no fullback there
are going to be a lot of missed tackles.

Full Back is a balance between attack and defence, I think Green
is attack heavy, which is great as he has the pace and ambition
to run it back.
Can he kick well, we will see.
Defence can be learnt with experience. It will be hard to
replace Brown, but like Green he was a young inexperienced
player once!
Personally, I am looking forward to seeing him play 15, it could
be very exciting move.

I'm not trying to bury the guy, but he did miss plenty of
head-on one-on-ones (Rowland a couple of times, for example) so
I don't think it's fair to just say it was because of Brown's
absence. I am also absolutely fine with saying it was hopefully
a one-off, just that it's an unfortunate thing to happen given
we'll likely be relying on him at 15 for the rest of the season,
and it does damage a little bit my impression of him as being a
hard-as-nails excellent technical tackler who was brilliant at
downing bigger opponents.
Does that make sense? I don't want to give the impression I want
him booted out of the side or anything, just that it's a little
concerning to me whereas before yesterday I would have
considered it a genuine strength of his.
I think the Irish game and our performance yesterday has me
worried we're coming off our peak already :)

Got to remember Greens chase and tap on Umunga was a turning
point that lead to the win too.

The key thing is whether he’s willing to learn.
If you look at Marcus today versus Marcus a couple of years ago,
he’s a completely different player defensively; while he’s never
going to flatten the big guys Wilkinson-style, he’s learned to
use his pace and reading of the game to be a real nuisance in
defence. I was really impressed yesterday at how many time he
was up in the face of the Wasps players closing down their
options. If Green is similarly willing to learn - and the early
evidence is that he is - then I think he has all the attributes
to succeed.
That said, he will always be a different style of player from
Brown. I remember Brown’s first appearance in the first XV. We
were puzzled as to why this kid had displaced Tom Williams, who
had done a decent job at fullback for several games, until play
began. Right from day 1 it was clear that Brown’s control of the
backfield was exceptional (I remember declaring “Ordinary name.
Special player” at the end of that game). Where he needed to
work was in his running style and acceleration - he started out
with this very rangy, long legged style that worked pretty well
even at club level but took too long to hit full speed when he
stepped up to internationals.
Green is a serious attacking threat and has looked good under
the high ball but needs to work harder on his positioning. In
that respect, I hope he is picking Mike’s brains as much as
possible and also getting some coaching from NEv, who I seem to
recall was no slouch as a fullback in his day, even if he didn’t
want to play there.
