This is exactly why I think it was a weird action. He's already
off balance, looks down and sees Taylor underneath him so steps
back. If you look at Taylor body he is lying with his head
angled back behind Mike. So he sees his body and assumes his
head is to the left of where he steps. I don't think he sees
Taylor's head when he steps back as his own body is in the way.

From the disciplinary committee:
“As is clear from the decision above, the panel were unanimous
that this was not a deliberate stamp by the player. This
decision was reached after a detailed review of video footage
(from a number of angles and at various speeds, including frame
by frame) and hearing from the player directly at length. The
player was clearly remorseful and conducted himself throughout
the process in a manner that does him much credit.
Whilst the panel understands that every rugby supporter is
entitled to voice their own views on incidents within matches
via social media, it is hoped that this decision provides
sufficient information for any views expressed on this incident
(and indeed on the player) to be informed and based primarily on
the facts of the incident.
Any abusive comments aimed at the player (whether generally or
as a result of this incident) are plainly unacceptable,
inconsistent with the values and core principles of rugby and
condemned by the panel.”
So you weren’t backed up, Wirral. Far from it, your comments
have been condemned. Care to review and retract your abuse?
For the last sentence of the above quote you can replace ‘panel’
with ‘rugby community’.

know if he's still within timeframe for it.

Absolutely. And from the snippets I've seen of the full
judgement there are.
E.g. minor injury sustained, agreed completely unintentional...
if it was the end of my career at Quins I'd be asking for a
reduction to 6 week starting point halved to 3, rather than top
end of 12 to 6.
