I don't think that pleading guilty can be an option!

Quite a few recent bans for head stamps have been in the 3-6
week range after mitigation (and I think there's a decent amount
of that in this case).
Do you remember Matthew Rees with his full bloodied stomp on
Nick Easter's face in a ruck back in the day? That was 7 weeks!
It'd be a few months these days.

Why not? A guilty plea, remorse, to go with the good previous
record and the provocation could well see it in the 5-6 week
range, or even less if they consider the entry point lower than
normal because of the lack of force.

Only Brown knows for sure whether or not it was deliberate. All
anyone else can do is draw conclusions from replaying the
incident and noting his previous conduct. I don't think Brown
would be considered a 'dirty' player and the fact that this was
his first ever red in a long and illustrious career would
support this.
I have watched the incident back on several occasions however,
and with the best will in the world, I cannot agree with the
interpretation of the incident given by many on here
HTML https://www.premiershiprugby.com/watch/highlights-harlequins-v-wasps-round-18
Incident at 3:18
1. If he is so off balance, it would seem very unnatural to
cross your right leg behind you in the way he does in an attempt
to regain balance? Far more natural to move it to the side. I
dont think he was off balance at all.
2. He clearly looks down before planting his foot. He knew
Taylor's head was there.
As I say, I don't think Brown is a dirty player by nature at
all. However, on this occasion, I think he had a red mist moment
and for that brief second he lost control of better judgement.
Don't really see how the footage can be interpreted differently
unfortunately.

Not sure about 2, but 1 is largely where we agree. I do think it
looks quite different in real time as it happens so fast, so the
question of balance is still there - completely agree it looks
like a very unnatural movement to put his foot back like that,
however. If it is accidental (and I don't believe it is),
perhaps the idea is that he was trying to avoid a body part and
that's why as soon as he felt contact on the face he threw all
his weight off his feet? Seems a bit convoluted, though.

Wouldn't that depend on the specifics of the charge? Whether we
believe that the act was intentional or not, there would seem to
be universal acceptance that he was reckless in where Brown put
his foot.
If the charge is therefore along the lines of recklessness
rather than wilful attempt to injury, he could do well to
apologise and admit guilt but plead mitigation (that he was
falling).

I agree Yareet - I don't think he can argue that it wasn't
reckless but can make that case that it wasn't intentional
I happen to think that he perhaps did intentionally stand on
Taylor (in a lazy getting up find of way) but didn't mean to get
him in the face - if he knew exactly where he was putting his
foot then why did he immediately stack it afterwards?

well it wasnt a stamp as it's being described its a placed foot
and not heavy downward motion, Given his past history which I
think does have a play here he has never had a red and never
attacked another player deliberately like he's being accused of
now, he's grappled and push a lot but not punched or stamped.
Had to be a red because it's head and if given a yellow he'd
have had red anyway because he'd already been binned. I think he
knew the player was there but I also think that's why you have
the foot movement I think he's trying to move his foot away from
where he thinks the players arms etc are. never able to prove it
and yes only Mike will know, but i I've watched him from a boy
to now playing for Quins and whilst passionate, I have never
seen him deliberately go out to hurt anyone like that and he's
had plenty of red mist moments to have tested him. Got to plead
guilty with circumstances, guilty because head contact was made,
circumstances are was unstable and trying to place foot away
from where he thought the player was, no stamping motion just
foot placement, plead not guilty and it's the long ban.

I think it looks bad from behind, but the long shot offers a bit
of mitigation - Brown is clearly trying to pull himself free
from being held on the ground, and when he puts his foot down he
lifts it again immediately and promptly falls over. I was
disappointed that Wayne didn’t spot that, as to me it’s pretty
strong mitigation - he may not have looked off balance but the
fact that he fell on raising his foot says he wasn’t stable and
wasn’t intending to make contact.
Brown despite his reputation has no record of thuggery and
rarely makes mistakes - remember the England game a few years
back where he very precisely rucked the ball extremely close to
an Irish (?) player’s head without making contact?

I think you're miseremembering, he gave Murray a kick in the
head on the backswing after trying to kick the ball through the
ruck several times (it was an England tactic). Purely accidental
but there was contact and the Irish made a big stink out of it.
