If this scenario is worth a 6week ban for something they admit
wasn’t deliberate then this leaves all sorts of incidents or
accidents liable for unfair punishments. If someone trips you up
which causes you to then do something that warrants a red card
how can you be punished for it.

I’m intrigued. Could you perhaps come up with a suitable
scenario?

The reality is that for political reasons they won't reduce it,
because (a) it would 'send the wrong message' about head contact
and (b) it would undermine their mates on the original panel
(aka, bring the process into disrepute). The odds are also
stacked against the player appealing because of the appeal
criteria.

It’s not quite the same scenario, but there was de Wet Barry’s
infamous head high tackle on Mat Tait... which on review turned
out to be because Tait tripped into him. At the time it was a
red card on the field but subsequently expunged from his record
because it was agreed that it wasn’t his fault.
Today, it would be reviewed on the field and would start at red
(direct head contact with force, tackler upright) but might be
mitigated down to yellow because Tait tripped.
What really rankles is that the system at the moment isn’t
producing consistent results in terms of the risks it’s trying
to manage. While we might argue about the length of the ban,
Brown’s red isn’t up for debate under the terms of the system -
but it had far less force or danger than Genge’s elbow to
Kenningham’s face or O’Flaherty’s upending of Parton. Both of
which copped a 10 minute spell in on the sidelines - and both
players came back to score tries later in the game.

If you are tripped and fall into another player shoulder to
head, are pushed and tread on someone, tripped or pushed into a
player in the air etc etc....

None of which are offences, let alone red cards.
Come on, I was hoping for a good story like "man explains how
tomato sauce bottle got stuck in his bottom".

That wasn’t my fault, I fell backwards and the bloke had put it
on the chair behind me. Anyway, how do you know about that.

If all the referee sees is a player apparently trying to make a
tackle but resulting in a head on head collision why is this so
hard to believe he wouldn't view that as an offence? There's
plenty of times a ref starts off believing one thing has
happened but after reviewing with the TMO comes to a different
conclusion?

This evening, I heard a story about a friend of mine, sadly now
no longer with us, whose girlfriend and tried to stimulate him
with a love egg up the jacksie (sp?), that she could only remove
with two teaspoons - does that count?

The eureka moment when you came up with Brown Bottle now becomes
clear.
