I would be extremely surprised if Smith tours with the Lions. I
can see an outside chance of him getting a mid-tour callup if
there's a run of injuries, but we're talking about Gatland, the
guy who was happy for Hogg to cover 10 rather than call up
another one.

If Sexton misses out initially and they take Russell, Biggar and
Farrell, you'd think Sexton would be the more likely injury call
up, then maybe Ford. I don't really see why you'd call Smith up
half way through a tour as injury call up - surely that's the
time to bring in someone who could slot in fairly quickly having
played at international level with other squad members. Who
knows what they're thinking though.
Smith should definitely be playing for England, but don't really
think he should be anywhere near the Lions at the moment.
Pleased with Allan as a back up signing, as long as he's not
with Italy. If he still has international ambitions then we're
still potentially looking at having a third choice ten starting
for us during international periods

does this mean Herron is offski as has been muted - wouldn't be
surprised as he hasn't exactly cemented a place in the squad.

Is this a sign of Gustard beginning to have the same effect in
Italy as he did here :)
