I completely agree with taking action, however I fear it will be
pointless. Like all social media where people can hide with made
up names, fake accounts and nothing linked to them, they will
make comments they’d never say to someone’s face, bully and
harass. The only real action will be to see some prosecutions
and accountability.

How about if people just didn't use stuff like facebook,
whatsapp, twitter etc? We have had it in the past where a player
got a bit carried away with a post and said/wrote something they
later regretted.
Are players contractually obliged to have a presence on social
media? If not, why bother?

You're right, it's completely the players' fault for having
social media...

If the reason you are using SM is to chat with your mates why
not just utilise a WhatsApp Closed Group?

Why should players have to come off social media just to avoid
getting racist abuse. Does that not strike you as the wrong
solution? I know some people see no point in social media, but
others like it. To say that if you don't like getting racist and
other abuse you should just withdraw from social media strikes
me as a pretty weak argument. If women don't like getting
assaulted they should just stop walking around London at night.
If young men don't like getting stabbed they should just stop
living in certain parts of London.

I think that the rules of racism/Hate Crimes are there but the
problem seems to be enforcing them. The haters need re-educating
and possibly a good slap.
Ooops. Did I say that out loud?

The only solution is real names on accounts which are verified.
If all 'celebrities' ditch social media completely then the
businesses involved might wake up and take the required action.

Facebook shows that people don't care if it's their real name on
display, they're happy to be hateful.
