I'd take Swiel over Herron as well.
If we are looking at our backup flyhalves over the past few
years, Herron comes a solid bottom imo

I always regarded Herron as third choice behind Lang but then
Lang seems to have stopped playing 10.

More reports about Allan moving to Quins. Having thought more
about it, I think this would be a great signing for us. If we’re
going to compete in Europe and the Premiership next season, I
don’t think it’s sensible to be relying on Marcus to be
available for every single game. Smith hasn’t really had any
games off since breaking through and with potential England call
ups, we need a solid back up.
I’d recommend watching a couple of Allan’s highlights, I’d only
seen him being involved in Italy’s campaign but for Benetton
he’s put in some good performances.

He could be a good signing - good enough to have played
internationally, but probably having reached the end of his
international career while having a good few years left in him,
especially if he’s not starting regularly.
If he fits in well, he could be the answer to the question posed
earlier of how we find a Jimmy Gopperth type player as backup to
Marcus.

I like this signing if it comes to fruition. Allan has fallen
down the pecking order for Italy so I'm guessing he's looking to
fizzle out of international rugby and make a decent sum playing
in the Prem. If that's the case then it's win-win.
For us I think he's just the right kind of backup to Marcus -
experienced, but also crucially quite a pacy 10. Much of our
success since Gussy gracefully departed has come when
Esterhuizen or Dombrandt make that initial bust at 1st/2nd
receiver, at which point Marcus often springs into life as a
tracking link player to extend the line break - and with runners
flooding through, that has led to quite a few tries this season.
Allan has the pace and, crucially, instincts to slot into that
kind of attacking gameplan - maybe we won't get quite the same %
of tries out of those scenarios as when Marcus plays, but the
drop off won't be anywhere near as marked as with Herron.
I hope we also get the Cardiff Met 10 to replace Herron. Allan
replaces Lang, promising youngster replaces Herron. Sorted.

Yep. I agree with that.
Having someone like Allan as second choice gives us the
opportunity to take a punt on a development prospect and given
how well Dombrandt and Northmore have worked out, I’d be more
than happy to take a look at he Cardiff Met 10 (sadly I don’t
remember his name).
It does also make me wonder how many more prospects there might
be in the BUCS university leagues that could make it as pros.
They’re not just at Cardiff Met.

Don't forget the U18's FH - from Hampton school - deemed to be
the top prospect at the beginning of the season - may not
convert to FH as he steps up, but potential......
