I still don’t get why there is a handling charge for buying a
ticket and not for buying nearly everything else. Why is a
ticket different. The last couple of things I bought on the
internet the same way didn’t have a fee for the privilege of
doing everything myself. I suspect it’s some tax dodge by
separating some of the price. Another thing is that a ticket
with a face value of £215 that cannot possibly be purchased for
that figure is not right. It’s not the amount it’s the
       principle.

So if they increased your ticket by the price of the booking fee
you would be happy? It would cost the same but you would be ok
       with that?
At least with a booking fee as it is there is a bit more
transparency. The price of your ticket goes to quins and the
booking fee helps pay for the ticketing system, licence fees
       etc.

if you buy by credit card in a shop they just process the
transaction, they aren't having to store your name/address and
details, protect them, have servers online and maintained to do
so. The shop just has a modem connection up to the cloud for
visa or whoever and they absorb that cost. Not a fan of the
charges but they do have costs to maintain this service.

I'm sorry for the reaction to my post. For my part £2 is
nothing in the scale of things but I do not want Ticket Master
       to get it.

So which types of payment does the £2 apply to and which ones
       doesn't it apply to?

The fact that Ticketmaster are charging the fee means that this
fee is legitimate under the regulations, otherwise they
would've been dumped on from a great height by now. Again, I
suggest that your issue is one of not wanting Ticketmaster to be
       paid for providing a service.

Are you a former TicketMaster employee by any chance? I'm
struggling to understand otherwise why you would be so
vehemently opposed to them being paid for the service they
       provide.
What next? Do you want Quins to refund a portion of your season
ticket because you don't want any of it to go towards the
training facilities or their utility bills?
Like every business, they receive payment for goods or services
they provide, and pay other businesses for goods or services
provided to them. It seems bizarre that you're getting so upset
about one of those transactions being demonstrated
       transparently.

It might just be easier accounting wise, or maybe there is a tax
implication - no idea here, but just guessing. Very neat and
separate split in income - Club can easily identify TM surcharge
and pay over, or identify, pay or not pay vat before sending on?

That's very possible - I'm not a tax specialist but I do know
that VAT is applicable on most outsourced services, but output
VAT on sporting events is lower than the rates on services. It
may be that by charging a fee directly, Ticketmaster are seen as
providing a service to the customer rather than to Quins and
avoid incurring VAT on all the revenue they collect for Quins.

Yes I would be happy with that as the price on the ticket is the
figure you pay. When I used to be in retail I didn’t charge my
customers any more than was the actual price. What do you think
the reaction would be if I sold an item for £100 and then
charged an extra £2 for serving them. When I took payment by
credit cards I had to pay a percentage to the bank and for debit
cards a fixed fee. I had to rent a processing terminal and all
these costs come out of my profits .
Charging £2 and calling it something else doesn’t change what
       it actually is, a surcharge.
