Season Ticket Renewal - Illegal Surcharge?

Regarding the £2 surcharge made by Ticketmaster, unless things
have changed, since 13 January 2018 under the Consumer Rights
(Payment Surcharges) Regulations 2012, it is illegal to charge
extra for payments to traders by Credit or Debit Card. I
contacted the club when they did this previously and the
surcharge was quietly dropped. Note, the DVLA no longer charge
£2-50 to renew vehicle tax as a result.

As far as I'm aware, it's not a surcharge for paying by
credit/debit card, but a handling fee to pay Ticketmaster for
processing the transaction. Why it isn't just absorbed into the
price (as happened when the legislation you refer to came in,
meaning that things just became more expensive for those of us
paying via other means) is anybody's guess!

It doesn't matter what you call it, it must be included in the
price. Look I would be quite happy for Quins to get £2 of my
money, but not Ticketmaster.

You seem to be conflating two issues in one. In your first post
you specifically call out regulations relating to Credit/Debit
card payments. However, I can say from having reviewed my
renewal using Quins credit (having paid for this seasons ST via
direct debit) that I also had to pay the £2 handling charge. It
would be fair to say that others renewing/paying through Direct
Debit would also be paying the £2 charge.
In your second post you have, if I may say, moved the goal posts
to say it's *not* because of the regulations regarding
Debit/Credit card payments that you're against, but the fact
that the payment processors for the club (in this case
Ticketmaster) are being directly paid for their work in the
costs charged to you rather than being a payment that the club
have made from their total income stream of which you are a
part. Which is it?
I get the feeling that your objection is more regarding the fact
that Ticketmaster are being paid for providing a contracted
service to the club in a way that is directly obvious to you,
rather than being obscured within the overall ticket price.

This handling charge is for what exactly. It is me who has to
fill in all the information make the transaction and do all the
work. The computer does the rest. Will I have to pay a handling
charge for paying in cash at the club office like I used to.
(I’ll ring the club shall I). When I go to a shop and buy
something or buy something on the internet I don’t pay a
handling charge so why do I when buying a ticket. I know it’s
only two quid but it’s the principle, to coin a cliche.

The problem there is that you're dismissing everything that
they're doing as "the computer" doing everything, when building
and maintaining their systems for it will have taken a huge
amount of time and investment, which imo they deserve to be
compensated for, plus they also need to pay their server costs,
which won't exactly be cheap.
Just because it's not handling in the traditional sense doesn't
mean that they're not doing any work and don't have any costs
associated with it for them to be justified in having a handling
charge

Indeed. There's also a cost involved in things such as data
security, privacy, GDPR compliance, etc that involve people
doing a lot of work that is unseen. Anyone who has had to do
GDPR training at work will realise that even for SMEs there's
quite a bit involved. Scale that up to a large corp like
Ticketmaster that is handling sensitive personal data & the
costs are quite large.

I don't particularly like booking fees / admin fees who does?
but it is made very clear what the fee will be. £2.00 per season
ticket/membership £1.50 per matchday ticket capped at £6.00 for
a group booking of 4 or more.
At least it isn't a %ge add on fee which is often the case and
then an added postage fee.
