spirit around the game ("Welcome Harlequins!" and "Allez les

it feel pretty worthwhile, but you'd have to look at the

I've been to both Toulouse and Toulon (not made Clermont yet),
but the reception for us at both, but particularly Toulon, was
excellent: great weekend away, even though we got stuffed (by
Toulon). Everyone we met wanted our shirts - note to Quins Sales
team: take a minibus of shirts with you - you'll sell them,
especially in the small bar called La Tribune, right next to the
SW corner of the stadium - and shared beers all weekend.

That would be the Mail's rugby journalism without who we would
still have systematic cheating in the Premiership.

As a ST holder who has hardly missed a game for 20 years I will
keep my ST but will not attend that often. Games against teams
that have diddly squat for play for who between 2 teams with
diddly squat to play for are of zero interest to me personally.
I have heard the argument that there is something to play for
for most teams with the top 6 getting into the European Cup. My
view is that any team that comes 6th is an average mid table
team in the Heineken just to make up the numbers with no chance
       if winning it.
To me part of sport is the pressure of relegation.
I am sure others will disagree and that is fine we are all
       different.

Agreed Max. It is so boring hearing people whine about the mail
all the time. Personally I do not read any paper regularly but
find the Guardian and Mirror insanely laughable. I do however
understand that we are all different and some people read such
       organs of the press.
I do not have the need to make infantile insults about the paper
       or these who read it.
As it happens the DM sports coverage is very good. They broke
the cheats story - they broke the football super league story.
Any club rugby fan owes the DM a debt of gratitude.

Radical idea! 30 Pro clubs is England, 3 Divisions. ALL moneys
not generated by the club itself, such as TV and league
sponsorships, split equally between all 30.4 up /4 down between
the 3 x 10 leagues 1 or 2 to lower leagues. Proper knock out cup
30 plus 2 most aspiring no league sides. 2 North/South leagues
with play off for the 32 Cup sides. Promotion /relagation
between league 3 and other probably North South (approx as now)
with final, subject to financial security. To ensure a bit more
sporting chance I would have the underdog, (i.e the lower league
team) play at home in the Cup and play off final( seems to work
well in German football!). Based on 6 sides in Champs Cup, those
not relegated, the 6 in Challenge the 4 relegated and 5,6 in
       League 2.
THIS IS JUST THINKING OUT LOUD!, more than a carefully costed
and calabarated solution to English rugby's perennial problem,
obviously it can be torn to bits but please do it witn
       constructive alternatives!

There’s something about your post that makes me think you’re
confusing “a logical argument” with “some right wing bollocks”
but I can’t quite nail it.

If we are chucking ideas around about ringfencing and the state
       of the game in general...
How about 3 up and 3 down each year?
And/Or, how about giving a newly promoted newbie a 3 year
guarantee of survival to allow for investment?
Look again at a partial/full draft system. I know things
American and Sport are not popular at the moment but hey.....
Stop trying to control things with financial constraints. Let
market forces do their work over time.

I initially liked the idea of a 3-year guarantee for the
promoted team but on reflection I’m not sure it’d make much
       difference.
If the promoted team is one of the 13 (as is usual), they
usually survive in the Prem anyway. If not, the 11th placed team
just bounces straight back up instead.
If we’re being completely off the wall, it would almost make
more sense to also make it a condition of the parachute payment
that the relegated team has to stay down for 3 seasons. That
would allow a different team to come up.
However, there is no way any of the 13 will agree to that.
