Cos this is the sort of thing my son likes doing, he's put some
stats together of pre and post Gustard departure.

Excellent work. I think the Quins score for the recent game with
Briz should read 31. I don't think it changes the figures much,
though.

The stats show Quins did a lot of things better under Gustard.
However, what the stats can't show is that Quins weren't worth
watching under Gustard, whereas they are now.

Nice work.
The penalty stats don't really tell the whole story, as the
post-Gustard regime has the outlier of the 18-penalty game
against Saints. Yesterday's 16 penalties will also push it up,
but we're usually around the 11 penalty mark. We've had 5
matches with fewer than 13 penalties conceded. With Gustard, of
the 7 matches, only 2 hit that mark. Would have loved to have
seen yellow cards in there too, gut feeling is we've reduced
those as well.
Similar story re: offloads, under Gustard there's that massive
outlier of the first Saints game (19 offloads!) and then the
average of the rest is under 5. We've only made fewer than 5
offloads since then twice in 11 matches. Same story for
defenders beaten.
TL;DR: Love this, but outliers do skew data and in this case the
outliers are making the differences look not as pronounced as
they really are. Averaging over small data sets is a tricky
business sometimes :)

A 22 point swing is rather significant, albeit the euro games
probably make the comparison a little unfair. Biggest one for me
is clean breaks.

Stats and figures make interesting reading but it’s games won
and points in the table that actually count. It does however
give an indication of how different game plans are working..
whenever stats are mentioned I have terrible flashbacks to the
Salarycens game we lost at home 0-39.
