in the Gustard days, a game like this would have been beyond us.
We would have rolled over and Oirish would have taken us apart.
I'm hoping we might be back to the days when we scrapped to the
end and snatched victory from the jaws of defeat. We didn't play
well. The ref was poor and we didn't cope with him well - and
with 14 we won. Reckon that's not a bad result. We don't want it
to be like that every week, but when we're up against it to
fight and get a result is a sign of what we're made of these
       days.

Interested in your post ref Gustard - as other than the two pool
games in Europe - how many times did what you describe happen on
his watch? My memory was that under Gustard we started to fight
to the death, even if victory was beyond us, especially his
first season when we secured a significant number of losing
       bonus points.
Does your post refer to the Jk era instead?

No - I do think that we might have 'tried' in the Gustard era,
it was often without direction and no real chance of winning.
This was a poor game but it was close and we didn't ever give
       up.

I sort of agree with this, except it was usually "don't fight at
all until it's too late, then start to play a bit and make
everyone wonder what might have been".
Whereas now we're usually not dying wondering from the start,
and yesterday despite being pretty rubbish from the start we
never let Irish get away from us, and fought for the win until
       the end.

So .... we played pretty poorly, had a man stupidly sent-off
leaving us to play for thirty-odd minutes with fourteen men and
       still won.
It's good to win playing superb rugby but it's also good to win
playing rubbish. That's what the best teams do.

Chis mentioned during the Harlequins Live programme against
Worcester that he should be available after the Irish game.
Think we’ll need his bulk and carrying with Esterhuizen out.

That’s good news! A back row of Chilsholm, Kenningham and
Dombrandt is well balanced and will help reduce the loss of Wev.
It’s still a significant blow though!

What a great opportunity for Kenningham now, push himself and
support the team getting to the play offs. With Curry probably
on the Lions tour and Evans injured, he'll get a great chance to
show his abilities and may even get a sneak call up for the
North American tour as a squad player if he shows himself in a
       good light.
And then I remember it's Eddie Jones and he'll probably play a
centre at open side!!!!!! (Sarcasm inferred)

Eddie has a wealth of quality back row players to pick from,
tipping the guy who's made a couple of starts and done well for
his age to get a call up is a bit premature I think...

I get that Jammy and I wasn't saying he should be. I think those
regulars that don't go with the welsh Lions may well be rested
as it's their only summer off every 4 years so some of the
normal names in the frame won't necessarily be there.
Depends what Eddie wants to see.
