       --- Code ---
Yareet That’s 44 weeks. What do you propose is dropped?
       --- End Code ---
Its a not a straight add as Prem & 6 Nations games overlap or
how may Prem teams actually play the full European competition.
I assume you not suggesting that top players do 44 weeks per
       season.
However, hasn't covid provided us with the opportunity to ask
the question do we want the same competition formats that just
seem to evolve from 1996 on the back of an envelope without any
guiding principles. It's not a case of dropping games from
existing formats but reviewing the competitions formats - are
       they fit for purpose.
You could start with a simple principle and by saying players
can only do 26 games per session, and the session is defined as
39 weeks from start to finish.
       1. Does it really take 24 games to find England's club rugby
championship - especially if the top English players are only
       doing 14-15 games
       2. What wrong with giving professional rugby players a 13 weeks
       stand down between sessions.
       3. Why are the different competitions Prem/European/6 Nations
played throughout the session instead of blocks.
       4. Why are the separate AI and summer tours in two small 3 weeks
blocks . The answer its historical and just happened, and both
       hemispheres complain.
       It's time to fix it.

Not quite sure what number of games you want to advocate but the
cash-strapped clubs are unlikely to want to have fewer and most
players are unlikely to want to take pay cuts.
       2. What wrong with giving professional rugby players a 13 weeks
       stand down between sessions.
Nothing - if it can work for everyone involved. Still not sure
why it should be the winter off though given that rugby is a
       winter sport.
       3. Why are the different competitions Prem/European/6 Nations
played throughout the session instead of blocks.
       Partly because the 6N doesn’t want to/ won’t move from Feb/March
and that’s smack in the middle of the NH season.
In theory, the Prem could run for 24 weeks from
mid-August to the end of January. 6N then runs Feb/March. Euro
       comps run April and May.
       4. Why are the separate AI and summer tours in two small 3 weeks
       blocks .
Because rugby is a winter sport played in 2 hemispheres.
Personally, I think that the season should build to the Euro and
       Test competitions.
I.e. Prem for 24 weeks (or however long), then Euros, 6N and
       Tours.
But what we’re discussing is the mythical global calendar. It’ll
happen one day but not without somebody making massive
concessions and I’m not sure who that will be.
I hope that it isn’t the NH who switch to summer rugby but
       somebody will have to.
Can’t see it ever being a 9-month season though.

It would make it a bit tricky in Southern France! Even evenings
can be 30 deg plus. in the summer.
