No, no, no, no and no. Our game is a sport for everyone of all
shapes and sizes. If you want fast running rugby on dry hard
pitches then go watch League or Sevens. Personally I love winter
rugby. Wrapping up against the cold/wet, enjoying a hot drink
and a chaser or two. Really dont see the problem. It aint broke
so dont fix it.

I like this idea a lot, I was a season ticket holder at Quins
and travel 2 hours to get to the stoop as many matchdays as I
could.
I would still like to do that but I started playing for my local
club, I got lucky the first season with loads of cancelled
fixtures due to playing for a 2s team so I could still make most
of the home games.
After joining the club i noticed how little anyone in the club
talked about prem rugby, were a few sarries supporters that went
to the occasional game but beyond this maybe 10% max followed a
prem team.
In my 2nd season with the club we actually got a string of
fixtures and I found myself going to the stoop less and less. I
thought ill just watch them on Tv when I can.
This became difficult too as my team like the rest of the teams
in the country, seems to be tied to a Saturday afternoon KO and
back in the pre covid days we would only get 2/3 games televised
a week.
So if you play local rugby and follow a team your only chance of
watching them play and playing for your club is to hope they are
one of the 2/3 games televised and that they drew a Friday night
/ Sunday game.
Most Saturdays I found myself checking the scores in the
changing room after the game which isn't really the same as
shouting at a TV in frustration or joy.
I think the summer move would allow more people who already love
and play the game to pick up a interest and follow teams, this
is the fans the prem should be trying to entice, not new fans
who don't know the rules and watch the 6N and nothing else.
Also its much easier to convince a few mates who have no real
interest in rugby to jump on the train and get down the stoop
for a day on the beers with the promise of some running rugby on
a beaming sunny day rather than a horrible wet day with 1 push
over try.

Sorry but for me that is a fundamentally flawed argument. Those
who play amateur rugby (and I'm one) are already fans of the
game. We will watch live games when we can and (as you say you
did) can still follow a Prem team.
But you are focusing on the smaller market at the expense of the
much, much larger audience. The latest figures I could find
showed that across the country England has 131k senior male
players. That includes pros and I've excluded women and U18s as
they typically don't play on a Saturday afternoon so there is
less likely to be a clash with Prem games.
For comparison, the 2019 Wales v England game got 6.5mn live TV
viewers on BBC1. Some of those will, of course, be outside
England (possibly a few in Wales!) but even if 75% are, that
still leaves an English audience of 1.6mn - 10x more than there
are players.
Whether you're a national Union looking for new players or a pro
club wanting to grow their fanbase, it makes much more sense to
cater to the TV audience than it does the amateur players.
Personally, I like the Sept-May season as it provides
opportunities to play in all weathers from the baked pitches of
early season to the swamps of mid-winter. In turn, that
encourages balanced squads that can adapt.

Your entire argument could simply be converted to "move the
amateur/local game to summer"
For me, the only type of weather that materially affects rugby
is high winds. Rain/mud just mean adapting and employing
different tactics and skills, but if you have a gale blowing
then that definitely has a real bearing on the game.

If rugby became a summer sport there would be nothing to look
forward to in the winter. During the summer there are holidays,
occasional cricket and family days out to enjoy. As the days
shorten and those things fade away I really look forward to the
season starting. The changes in conditions are all part of the
fun.

Fully in favour of this. Winter up at The Lane, summer at The
Stoop. Occasional 20/20 on a June evening. Decent running
rugby and not a scrum fest.

Love a good scrum. There are other versions of Rugby available
if you don't.

Why not an Spring/Summer/Autumn season for both club &
internationals, & give the players the winter off.
Benefits of? 12 weeks off from actually playing & allowing
professional rugby players to recover & get a quality preseason
training.

12 weeks off so the season fits into 40 weeks
Prem is 24 weeks
6 Nations is 5 weeks
AIs are 3 weeks
Summer tours are 3 weeks
European comps are 9 weeks
That’s 44 weeks. What do you propose is dropped?

How about a European Superleague where Premuerships best teams
play 4 games less in a Euro league at the expense of all the
other clubs?
(Ducking now)
